In just a little over two months, or 69 days to be exact, we’ll all be playingBattlefield 6, thefirst new Battlefield game since 2021s Battlefield 2042, a game thatmost hardcore Battlefield fans would like to forget.
Ahead of its October 10 release, Battlefield Studios, the collective group of developers from Electronic Arts that are building the next entry in the first-person shooter franchise, have been detailing more and more about the game, including a major return of an iconic multiplayer map.
As detailed by GameSpot, when BF6 does launch, it’ll have nine playable maps, ranging from one set in New York to another in Cairo. However, most notable is the fact that Battlefield 3’s Operation Firestorm will be one of them in full HD glory.
On those nine maps, you’ll be able to play Conquest and Rush, along with other FPS staples like Team Deathmatch or Domination. And in those modes, you’ll have access to a suite of weapons that can be customized far more than any other title, it seems. Still, the big news is that Operation Firestorm will be in the game.
Battlefield Studios Has Stressed The Battlefield 3 And Battlefield 4 Inspiration
Including Operation Firestorm might seem like a cheap gimmick, but the team has stressed how much Battlefield 6 is taking from the more iconic Battlefield titles. Christian Grass, vice president and executive producer at Ripple Effect, called Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4 the “pinnacle” of the franchise.
Additionally, the creative director, Thomas Andersson, said Battlefield 6 will be a “spiritual successor” of sorts to those games, which should be music to fans' ears. With only so many days until BF6’s launch, things are certainly shaping up for a proper return to the franchise after several misses.
