I’ve said it many times when I’ve coveredHollow Knight: Silksong— despite its challenges, the community the game has fostered is one of the most fun on the internet. With news about the game so infrequent, members of the Silksong subreddit have taken it upon themselves to create news themselves, tricking other members in the process, alongside numerous other wacky schemes.
There was a time wheneverybody rallied around a fake release date, countless occasions when fake trailers or tweets were shared, and even a timewhen members of the community were sacrificedto appease the Silksong gods.
At this point, with so many showcase snubs, Skongers usually take things in their stride. This recent Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase felt different, though, with sentiment in the usually optimistic community turning sour.
Sentiment Towards Team Cherry And Hollow Knight: Silksong Seems To Be Turning
In the hours followingSilksong’sabsence from the recent Nintendo Direct, a number of posts appeared on the game’s subreddit, with players accusing Team Cherry of disrespecting the community.
Onethread, from user Wildestrika101, which quickly garnered 1,900 upvotes and more than 200 comments, before being locked, said, “No communication. No date confirmation. Exclusive demos for people that aren’t even bothered about the game. It’s disrespectful, and Team Cherry DO owe us after all this time.”
Wildstrika’s feelings were shared by many. Heavy-hitsaid, “It’s honestly so funny that they still have a fanbase at this point,” while NikaGE0added, “I don’t see how this is justifiable unless they got a very good reason, which is unlikely. I wonder if they’ll address it or just say sorry and move on.” A third commentsaid, “This is almost more exciting than the game itself lmao. I really wonder how they want to get out of this without their reputation taking a hit.”
In the subreddit, multiple other angry threads surfaced, many aggrieved at Team Cherry, with some going as far astaking their anger out at Matthew Griffin, known as Leth, who works in Marketing and Publishing for Team Cherry.
Although much of the sentiment on the Silksong subreddit is currently overwhelmingly negative, there are more than a handful of optimists willing to let Team Cherry do what it needs to do. With Gamescom Opening Night Live just around the corner, anda guaranteed appearance on the show floor from Silksong, you have to imagine something official is close.
