Summary
In exactly one year and seven days, we’ll all — hopefully — be playingGrand Theft Auto 6. That’s becausethe game was unceremoniously delayed to July 22, 2025, a datethat Take-Two and Rockstar Games are both confident in reaching, andone that Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick believes is closer to a six-month delay due to how late the game was planning to release in 2025.
Speaking of Zelnick, when GTA 6 does finally come out, don’t expect him to hop on the sticks and join us in Vice City. Despite being the CEO of one of the largest video game holding labels around, Zelnick isn’t a gamer.
Zelnick Has Opinions On Games, But Doesn’t Actually Engage With Them
As first spotted by Dexerto, in an interview with CNBC, Zelnick revealed that he won’t be playing GTA 6, a rather interesting factoid considering the number of gaming executives who actively play video games.
“I’m not a gamer, not a lot — I don’t play video games, I’m not the consumer-in-chief,” he said.
That said, Zelnick does share his “opinions pretty openly,” meaning he does have some say in how the final product does take shape. Instead, Zelnick believes his role is in getting the best possible people to make the best possible products.
“My role is to attract, retain, and motivate the best talent in the business, and then get out of their way.”
Of course, while Zelnick himself won’t be playing, it’s highly likely players will run into Rockstar employees come release. GTA 4,which is rumored to be in line for a re-release, famously had a Trophy tied to killing a Rockstar employee in multiplayer. All that is to say, so long as GTA 6 delivers on the hype, it doesn’t really matter if Zelnick plays games or not, though it would be pretty cool.
