Summary

New footage ofPokemon Scarlet & VioletonNintendo Switch 2shows the game running at 60fps. This comes after the gamelaunched on the original Switch with a slew of performance issues, including framerate dropswhen the game was already capped at 30fps.

In footage shared on the Nintendo Today app, we can see that the Switch 2 upgrade of Scarlet & Violet fares much better. While we’ll have to judge this for ourselves on launch day, everything is running very smoothly in the footage, even when there are a lot of Pokemon on screen.

If the game runs like this when we get our hands on the Switch 2 later this week, then this is a huge upgrade. However, it is frustrating that these improvements are, presumably, locked behind the new console, with no updates planned for the game on the platform it launched on.

Scarlet & Violet’s performance came under fire when it launched in 2022. The game is hardy pushing the Switch to its limits visually, and yet the game was full of bugs, visual errors, and struggled to maintain 30fps.Even the DLC launched with performance issues, as Nintendo seemed uninterested in improving the game much after release.

On the bright side, these Switch 2 improvements shouldn’t be paywalled if you already own the game. I suppose that’s the least Nintendo could do, considering you’ve already put down $450 for the console. With that said, you will have to pay for upgrades in other Switch games, likemouse support in Metroid Prime 4.
