Summary

It’s a gamer’s worst nightmare come to life. Just days before theNintendo Switch 2is set to launch, those who were lucky enough to secure a preorderare now finding that their order has been canceled.

Just like that, June 5 — the launch date forNintendo’s successor to the originalNintendo Switch— will come and go without a console, leading to frustration, confusion and overall panic in the gaming community as people frantically check their order status to ensure that they too have not had their pre-orders closed.

For What It’s Worth, Some Retail Stores Will Have Stock Available On Day One

Originally, the issue seemed limited to those in the UK who had pre-ordered a console from retailer GAME. Earlier in the week,Eurogamer reported that the retailer had canceled an unknown number of pre-orders.

The retailer acknowledged the issue, while also adding that it would “reinstate as many affected pre-orders as possible.” Unlike other retailers, GAME will not have in-store pre-orders, making the situation all the more frustrating.

However, in the days since the debacle at GAME, customers in the United States have also begun experiencing random cancellations.

Throughout the Switch subreddit, customers have provided proof of their consoles being canceled. “Canceled mine saying there was a problem charging my card when I had more than enough, and they had charged it before for the hold,“a user shared.

While the issue seemed relegated to Walmart, it seems Target is also canceling orders, leading some to speculate that the retailers “oversold” on preorders, though that hasn’t been confirmed. One usershared that a Walmart customer service representative told them it was a known payment issue that would be addressed.

So far, it doesn’t seem like any other retailer has canceled orders. If you happen to have your order canceled, some retailers, including GameStop, will have a limited amount of stock at launch. Fingers crossed that the remaining pre-orders are safe from cancellation.
