TheNintendo Switch 2’s transfer system is incredibly straightforward. However, it clearly has issues that need to be ironed out. Particularly for those who have transferred theirPokemonsaves to Switch 2, or at least they thought they had.
The sharing of Switch 2 Pokemon save file horror stories appears to have started witha post by ThatOtaku26 on the PokemonScarletViolet subreddit. The post has been deleted, butIGNhas shared the details. The user claims that upon opening Pokemon Scarlet for the first time on their Switch 2 post data transfer, they were shown the language select and character creator screens, indicating that they were starting a fresh save.
They then went back to their original Switch and, since the data had been transferred, their save was nowhere to be found. Others have shared in the replies to the original post that they have suffered the same fate. However, the OP’s scenario is among the worst, as the deleted save included Pokemon that they originally caught in Pokemon games on theGame Boy Advance, not to mention 1,000 hours of progress in Pokemon Scarlet.
Hold The Pokemon You Love Most Tight Before You Transfer Them
Then Put Them In Home So They’re Safe
Thanks toPokemon Home, and Pokemon Bank before it, trainers have been able to bring Pokemon from games on much older consoles along with them on their journey and use them in the latest games. That’s why, in the wake of people losing their save files, fellow Pokemon fans are urging those who aren’t already using Home to get it set up before they transfer their data to Switch 2.
Also worth noting that when Pokemon are in your games with you, they’re not in Home, so any Pokemon you don’t want to lose need to be in Home before you start the transfer.
While there’s nothing that can save your save file if it gets lost between consoles, if you put your Pokemon in Home before you start the transfer process, then you can rest assured that they’ll be safe. You can then put your Pokemon back into the games on Switch 2 and start over, or carry on from where you left off if you’re one of the lucky ones and your saves made it through the void.
