Supermanis a hit at the box office, with its opening weekend projected to bring in around $120 million, if not more. Understandably, this has reignited interest in the Superman franchise as a whole, but there’s one area whereDCwill struggle to capitalise on this - video games.
No, seriously, think to yourself: what video games can DC push right now? DC’s recent gaming endeavours have been so dire that the last two games to feature the Man of Steel have already had their support pulled. But DC is trying anyway, and is using Superman’s success to boost…Batmangames?
If You Loved Superman, Check Out These Games That Have Almost Nothing To Do With Superman
Right now, the following DC games are on sale as Superman hits theatres:
While the sale is being promoted by Xbox here, you can also nab these games at a discounted price on Steam. PlayStation only has Gotham Knights on offer.
Now, if you just saw Superman and really liked it, I cannot think of worse games to recommend to you. The Arkham collection and Gotham Knights are, as the names suggest, not Superman games. Then we have Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which does at least feature Superman, but he’s been brainwashed and(spoiler alert), you have to kill him. Well, another spoiler, butthe final season before support was pulled actually undid that death. Still, generally not a good choice of game if you’re chasing the feeling that the recent film gave you.
One of the other recent games that Superman appeared in wasMultiVersus, but that has since beenshut down and delisted. It doesn’t seem that anything will be improving anytime soon either, as amuch anticipated Wonder Woman game has been canacelled too, giving DC fans very little to look forward to in the gaming space.
At the very least, James Gunn is aware of this and has indicated thatthere will be games set within the rebooted DCU in the future. Separately, he has said therecould be more games in the Arkhamverse, and voiced his support for aDC equivalent of Marvel Rivals.
