Summary
Super Smash Bros. Ultimatemight not be getting a dedicatedSwitch 2Edition, but it’s still seen some massive improvements that make it well worth booting up again on the new console.
While it’s true that the Nintendo Switch 2’s launch library is a little slim since it’s really justMario Kart WorldandNintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour, there’s still a good deal to play thanks tohow many original Switch games have seen dedicated upgrade updatesthat make them play better than they ever could before.
Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are leading the charge hereuntil games likeSuper Mario Party JamboreeandKirby and the Forgotten Landget an update, there are also abunch of games getting more minor upgrades on June 12 like Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. The Alt Costume Curse Is Finally Gone
As pointed out by Twitter user LittleMacMainKO, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate may not have gotten its own dedicated Switch 2 Edition like Breath of the Wild or a proper update likeMario Odyssey, but it’s still better than before thanks to the improved hardware. As you can see in the video above, Smash Ultimate now loads a ton faster than it did on the Switch.
Smash’s load times were neverthatbad, but they could pile up a bit if you were playing through a few matches or getting stuck into the Spirit Board. Now, that seems like a thing of the past, as the loading screen is basically over as quickly as it started, all thanks to the Switch 2’s better specs.
Those increased loading times have also had a big effect on a very minor issue in the original version of Smash Ultimate -alternate costumes and how long they take to load in. If you’ve played Ultimate recently, you’ll know that the alternate costumes lag behind in the roster’s menu, but that’s a thing of the past with the Switch 2, which should save even more time when playing.
It’s a shame that Smash Ultimate hasn’t received a big upgrade, but what would you even add at this point? Minor updates thanks to the system seem like the right way to go.
