Over the past month, since the launch of theSwitch 2, Nintendo has been updating a variety of its older games to improve their compatibility with its latest hardware. Games likeAnimal Crossing: New Horizons,Super Mario Odyssey, andThe Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdomall received such updates, with reports suggesting the new versions are “so good they’re basically remasters”.
Another title, whichhas now had a couple of updates, is opening old wounds, as Nintendo has once again released a patch forSuper Mario 3D All-Stars, a game which players haven’t been able to purchase new for a number of years now.

Nintendohas confirmed, like many of its other Switch 2 updates, that Super Mario 3D All-Stars has seen “Several issues have been addressed to improve gameplay on Nintendo Switch 2.”
This ambiguous message, of course, gives no actual indication as to what has changed, but the likelihood is that Nintendo has squashed a few bugs that have been plaguing the Switch 2 version of the title.
Naturally, the news that 3D All-Stars has received yet another update hasn’t gone down too well. The collection, which turns five in September, was only available on sale for a number of months to celebrateSuper Mario Bros.' 35th anniversary, leaving many players empty-handed.
On Reddit, SliderGamer55said, “Nintendo stopped selling this game nearly four and a half years ago. I have no idea if this update is commendable or infuriating with that information in mind.” A second user added, “I do not get why they sold this game in the way that they did.”
