Our favorite cocky blue hedgehog,Sonic The Hedgehog, has to be one of gaming’s strongest heroes, with god-like strength and willpower and, of course, supersonic speed. From taking down gods to world-ending aliens, Sonic has been put through many challenges from various villains over the years.
While some such as Eggman have been pushovers, others have put him and his friends within an inch of their lives. That begs the question, however, which of the villains from across the countless games have been Sonics strongest foes? Some are all just show, while others have more strength than 100 Sonics combined.
11Doctor Robotnik
Evil But Not Powerful
Sonic’s first antagonist has been one of his most chaotic rivals across the series and, while Doctor Robotnik is an evil genius, he is not much more than that.Eggmanhas, over time, become the secondary antagonist, unleashing great evils in hopes that he can control them. Occasionally, this goes well, but most of the time, he just ends up as a cracked egg.
He may be a bit of a joke compared to the god-like villains in the series, but we can’t undermine the mental power Eggman has. With decades' worth of plans, having conquered the world and even created super weapons, Eggman is a mechanical mastermind. While not all too powerful on his own, he has proved to be a threat worth taking seriously… for the most part.
10Mephiles The Dark
The Wrong Half Of A God
Mephiles is one of the series' coolest villains, being one-half of the sun god Solaris inSonic 06.In this game, he takes the form of Shadow’s actual shadow and is shown to have great powers but lacks strength. Since Solaris was separated into two parts, Mephiles carries only the wits and brains of the destructive god.
The issue with Mephiles is that while he is mentally strong, he lacks the physical power to back it up. For the entirety of Sonic 06, he is desperately trying to find Iblis, which is the half of Solaris that has its strength. One thing that Mephiles does have over other villains, though, is that he was able to kill Sonic, albeit in a surprise attack, but this is more proof of his cunning strength.
9Erazor Djinn
The Erasor Of Stories
One of the more obscure villains in the series, Erazor Djinn, is from a more forgotten tale in the title Sonic and the Secret Rings. This storybook series spin-off game revolves around Sonic being sucked into the world of the Arabian Knights and Erazor Djinn wants to take over the world and even escape into Sonic’s.
After absorbing some of the powerful World Rings without the proper ritual, he transformed into a creature called Alf Layla wa-Layla, which gave him even stronger demonic powers. Erazor Djinn may be more of a crafty trickster Djinn who manipulates others to get his wishes, but he is still shown to be very powerful.
8Time Eater
Controlling The Speed Of Sound
This temporal foe fromSonic Generationsis the main antagonist that causes Sonic and his past self to team up. Bringing places from Sonic’s past into White Space, the Time Eater ripped through space and time, causing chaos. The Time Eater is able to rip between time periods and transport the past into the future and vice versa with ease.
The beast itself may seem relatively weak outside its catastrophic powers; however, it did take the power oftwo Super Sonicsto defeat it. It is able to manipulate time from any timeline or time period and even drain the life of time by sending it into White Space. Time control is something that very few can fight back against, and it is not to be messed with.
7Metal Overlord
The AI Uprising
One of Sonic’s longest-running mechanical rivals is the robo replica made by Eggman, Metal Sonic. This metallic bot is one of Eggman’s best inventions, which was created to rival Sonic in every way. This became a bit of an obsession for Metal, who will stop at nothing to beat Sonic, including overthrowing Eggman and taking over his army.
InSonic Heroes,Metal Sonic takes on the role of the main villain with upgraded AI hardware and even colder motives. Dawning a new form inNeo Metal Sonic,he becomes even stronger than Sonic himself. However, this is not enough, and he upgrades himself again to a giant dragon-like robot in Metal Overlord, who takes the might of Super Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles to defeat.
6Infinite
He Is Not WEEEAAAAKKKKK
This totally not weak villain fromSonic Forceshelps Eggman take over the entire world. Infinite, on his own, is a pathetic character, but with the Phantom Ruby he is able to become something much more sinister. This crystal is able to cancel out theChaos Emeralds’power, and even surpass the Master Emerald by distorting reality and space-time like it’s nothing.
The only issue with Infinite is that Sonic Forces really did not show us the full extent of his power. He has the power to warp reality and even create physical manifestations of anyone or anything thanks to the Phantom Ruby, but this is barely even shown properly, and he likely doesn’t even know how to take advantage of the Ruby’s true power.
5Final Hazard
The Second Best Ultimate Life Form
Since Shadow The Hedgehog was a villain for less than a single game, he does not make it onto this list; however, his scaly younger brother does. The Biolizard was the prototype before Shadow, and while it was shown to be quite weak, it also has immense power, which it shows when becoming the Final Hazard at the end ofSonic Adventure 2.
While the Biolizard is an imperfect being, it was still created to be the ultimate life form and having something like that merge with one of the government’s strongest weapons, the Space Colony ARK, makes it quite a horrific beast. Only with the strength of both Super Sonic and Super Shadow was Final Hazard able to be stopped, and it deserves the title of the second-strongest ultimate life form for a reason.
4Perfect Chaos
Perfectly Chaotic
In the early days of the series, Sonic would always just end up fighting against Eggman. However, inSonic Adventure, the first proper threat would be introduced with Chaos. This mutated Chao is a being who is true to its name as, after being a protector of Chao, it was filled with anger after an Echidna tribe attacked it and betrayed its trust.
While in its regular form, Chaos is powerful, once it absorbs all the Chaos Emeralds, it becomes Perfect Chaos and this form is why Chaos is so feared. This supped-up form pushes Chaos’s abilities beyond mortal levels. Chaos has strength beyond compare and being immortal makes it a threat that, luckily, is not always looking to destroy the world, instead just wanting to protect the Chao.
3Perfect Dark Gaia
Slumbering Below The Ground
InSonic Unleashed,Sonic faces a dark creature that has awakened from its slumber within the Earth’s core. Dark Gaia is a giant ancient being who is the manifestation of darkness and destruction, and it usually awakens after a long slumber to attempt to destroy the planet. Thanks to Light Gaia, this usually results in it losing, but its power is immeasurable.
Being a creature of pure destruction from the dawn of time, which has threatened to destroy the planet multiple times and has likely succeeded, is something that other villains wish they had the power to do. Dark Gaia, even in its regular form, is almost god-like in strength, with its only true weakness being Light Gaia; even Sonic barely stands a chance.
2The End And Supreme
Ender Of Civilizations
Sonic Frontierssaw Sonic taking on some of his biggest foes yet, and the climactic final boss was one of Sonic’s hardest challenges. The End is a cosmic traveling entity that has been traveling around the cosmos of the Sonic universe, destroying countless planets and civilizations. After being sealed away, the world was safe, until Sonic is fooled into unleashing it again.
Not only did Sonic have to become Super Sonic Two to even stand a chance against The End when it controlled the Supreme Titan, but he even had to reach a higher level of power in Super Sonic Cyber to even leave a scratch before it self-destructed itself. Few villains can survive the power of Super Sonic, but The End forced Sonic to push himself even further beyond.
