Chun-LI fans, rise up! Not only hasFortnitebroughtback the skinof one ofStreet Fighter’s most iconic characters, but the in-development live-action adaptation of the fighter has cast who will portray the expert martial artist.
As reported by Deadline, Callina Liang, who rose to famein the British drama “Tell Me Everything,“and wasmost recently part of Steven Soderbergh’s “Presence,“will be the one to portray Chun-Li. When the movie releases, it’ll mark the third such portrayal of Chun-Li in live-action, with Ming-Na Wen having done so in 1994 and Kristin Kreuk in 2009.
Elsewhere, rumors started by Nexus Point News, state that the rapper-turned-actor 50 Cent will be the one to portray Balrog. Those rumors have not been corroborated by any other outlet, so unlike the Chun-LI casting, it’s best to take them with a grain of salt.
Street Fighter’s Cast Has Quickly Come Together
Originally, the movie was supposed to be directed by Danny and Michael Philippou of RackaRacka fame, but a scheduling conflict forced them out. In their place, Kitao Sakurai has taken on the project. He worked on the Netflix film “Bad Trip.”
That said, beyond Liang and maybe 50 Cent, the rest of the cast has quickly taken shape.Andrew Koji and Noah Centineo will seemingly be portraying Ryu and Ken, respectively. Meanwhile, Jason Momoa is also part of the project, though his role is unclear.Nexus Point News says Momoa will be Blanka, while Roman Reigns of WWE fame will apparently be Akuma and Orville Peck will be Vega.
Even if their exact roles have not been confirmed, Koji, Centineo, Momoa, Reigns and Peck have all been confirmed to be in the movie, via Deadline. It’s sort of a fever pitch of a cast, but a video game movie wouldn’t be one without it.
