It’s been more than a year since season one of X-Men ‘97 came to an end. We know we’re getting more of the hit revival, we just don’t know when. To help fill the undetermined gap, Funko has thrown us a lifeline by turning five more of the show’s characters into Pops that should be available to buy later this week.
Joining X-Men 97’s Funko Pop collection, potentially as soon as this Wednesday according tofunkoinfo, areMagento, Jubilee, Storm, Nightcrawler, and the version of Bastion that has been corrupted by Nimrod. There are technically seven new Pops, as the Jubilee and Bastion figures will have rarer chase variants. Jubilee’s chase has cracked glasses and a different mood, and Bastion’s is also more upset than the common version since it has lost part of its face in battle.
If it feels like it’s been a while since Funko gave X-Men ‘97 some attention, that’s because it has been. While the show is a little more than a year old, its firstFunko Pops,a drop that included Cyclops, Gambit, and Bishop, arrived well before the show began. It also included a Magento Pop, but it doesn’t look anything like the one that will be released later this week, and there’s a good reason for that.
X-Men ‘97 Is Finally Getting A New Wave Of Funko Pops
I Get The Feeling One Of Them Is Going To Be Very Popular
Releasing the Magento Pop that will be here later this week before the show had started airing would have spoiled one of the best things about it. Instead of sporting the red and purple outfit he dons for other parts of the show, and is best known for in the comics, there’s a portion of X-Men ‘97 where Magneto wears a very tight, sleeveless purple shirt with a big white M on the front.
Seeing Magneto in this way went down pretty well with a lot ofMarvelfans, so I can only imagine the Funko Pop recreation of that popular look will sell pretty well. It’s not as good as the real thing, nor does it measure up to seeing Magneto that way again in X-Men ‘97 season two, but short of rewatching season one (which you should probably do, because why not?) it’s the closest you’re going to get to more buff, sleeveless Magneto.
What do you mean people weren’t thirsting over animated Magneto? Firstly, just look at him, but also, our friends over at Collider can back me up.
Speaking of season two, Disney Plus has given it a vague release date of 2026, so we still have at least seven more months until we get more X-Men ‘97. The race is on between that and Insomniac’s Wolverine, although followingthe latest vague update on PlayStation’s next superhero exclusive, it doesn’t sound like there’s much chance of it arriving before we get more X-Men ‘97.
