Stellar Blade’s PC port has barely been out a day, and it’s already creating waves. We recently reported thatthe game has outperformed every other PlayStation PC port, with 99,980 players playing concurrently on Steam. It has beaten the likes of Ghost of Tsushima and God of War. WhileShuhei Yoshida claims the success is because of its combat, we have another theory.
Let’s say that many players downloaded it for the combat, but heading over toNexus Modsmight make you think otherwise. We all knew it was going to happen, but nobody could have predicted the sheer number of raunchy mods that have been made for the game, with the overall top one receiving 64.2K downloads at the time of writing.
Stellar Performance
As pointed out byGamesRadar+,the sheer number of mods and downloads in simply a day has far exceeded those of Nier Automata, which has its own thirsty fan base and mod community. It’s true that Stellar Blade had a Steam demo, giving the modders some more time to work on their art, but the number skyrocketed after the full launch.
The top mod on Nexus Mods for Stellar Blade currently is ‘Eve with no clothes on’, and it’s got about 64.2K downloads. And that’s quite vanilla to some of the other stuff you’ll find there. The total number of adult mods sits at 89 right now, but you can be sure that the number will increase in the coming weeks.
I even tried to count the total number of downloads on all these mods, but I couldn’t get past the first page. According to GamesRadar+, the top 30 of them had a combined 351,000 downloads at the time. Even at its peak, Nier Automata received nowhere near these numbers on Nexus Mods.
Maybe Yoshida wasn’t privy to this information when he said that the game’s popularity is due to its combat. While the combatisactually pretty good, these numbers don’t lie. The modding community has surely played a major part in Stellar Blade doing so well on PC.
