Stardew Valleyis one of the most successful indie games of all time, selling over ten million copiesin just nine years while still regularly appearing in Steam’s top ten most-played list (at the time of writing, it’s ranked 8th). As if that wasn’t enough, it just broke another monumental record.

As pointed out by u/im-not-sorry-jon, Stardew Valley is nowthe number one highest-rated game on Steam, overtakingPortal 2with an approval rating of over 98 percent.

Portal

It’s an incredibly close race, as Stardew Valley is only ahead of Portal 2 by just 0.02 points, for a total of 8.87. But with a huge price cut in the Steam sale, reducing it to $7.49, more and more reviews are pouring in, boosting its ranking.

SteamDB has a drastically different list because it has its own rating algorithm separate from Steam’s. Even then, Stardew Valley is ranked second, beaten only by Portal 2.

Stardew Valley also has over double the reviews that Portal 2 does, with 896,000 at the time of writing. With every passing year (averaging around 262 reviews per day), it edges closer to the one million milestone, a figure that only four games have ever crossed in the 11 years since reviews were introduced to the platform:Terraria,Garry’s Mod,Black Myth: Wukong, andElden Ring.

What’s especially impressive about Stardew Valley’s rating is that only 13,000 people have left a negative review, ie 1.6 percent. They are completely outnumbered by the 882,000 positive reviews, amounting to 98.4 percent of the overall pool.

As with any game on Steam, that could always change with one bad update, since reviews are fluid and can be revoked or changed. But for the time being, Stardew Valley has the crown.
