Summary
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republicfans don’t have the best luck. After getting an incredible RPG fromBioWarein 2003, the follow-up fromObsidianwas rushed out of the gate - but was still brilliant. Even better than the original, depending on who you ask. Well, if you person you ask is me, anyway.
I digress. This is all to say that the series was never given the chance it deserved, leaving fans waiting for more. There’s the MMOStar Wars: The Old Republic, but that’s no good if you want another single-player RPG. So, that’s why there was a lot of excitement when the KOTOR Remake was announced back in 2021. But as we should be used to by now, something has clearly gone wrong, as we’ve seen nothing from the game since that initial teaser.
Now, another Summer Game Fest has come and gone, withthe KOTOR Remake nowhere to be seen. So, a fan has taken the matter into their own hands, using a series of mods to improve the original game, giving us something of an unofficial remaster.
Here Are The Mods You’ll Need To Get KOTOR Looking A Little Prettier
This comes to us courtesy of Reddit user LiterallyLuBu, who has shared screenshots of their modded KOTOR run. The reshade that adds the thicker lines around all the characters, almost making it look like a Telltale Game, was made by them and will be shared on Nexus Mods soon.
In the meantime, here are the mods used in the screenshots:
The reshade that they created will really complete it, but in the meantime, those mods will improve a bunch of textures in the game. It certainly gives you an excuse for a replay, and I definitely think we can all fit one in before the remake materialises. Or, well…ifit materialises.
It’s hard to say what’s happening with the game right now. There are some stores accepting pre-orders, but you almost definitely shouldn’t make a purchase right now, as pre-orders have not opened through official channels. What we do know is thatit is being developed by Saber Interactive, after Aspyr was removed from the project.

WHERE TO PLAY
Star Wars: KOTOR is an epic RPG set thousands of years before the events of the original movies, and puts you in the role of a Jedi who must defeat a Dark Lord of the Sith. It features three customisable classes, and a branching narrative that changes according to which side of the Force you lean towards.
