We’re on the cusp of the launch of Netflix’sSquid GameSeason 3. The 2021 show, which was initially only commissioned for a single season, exploded in popularity on launch, leadingNetflixto order not one,but two more.
Ahead of its launch, we attended the Squid Game Season 3 press conference, and although all signs point to this season being the last, one actor is seemingly very keen for the show to continue.
Front Man Actor Lee Byung-hun Isn’t Ready For Squid Game To End
During the press conference, which featured the show’s director Hwang Dong-hyuk,Player 456Lee Jung-jae,Front ManLee Byung-hun, and North KoreanPink GuardKang No-eul, played by Park Gyu-young, the team was asked to sum up the end of Season 3 in three words.
Answering the question, Dong-hyuk, Jung-jae, and Gyu-young all gave fairly definitive answers, like “Finale” and “Harmony”, but Byung-hun ended his trio of words with “New Start”. While that alone isn’t proof of anything, it was said with a wry smile, and the Front Man couldn’t help but say, “It’s a dual meaning.” An interesting choice of words.
That wasn’t the only time that Byung-hun referenced the show continuing, either. When asked about how he felt about the way the show wrapped up, Byung-hun said, “Director Hwang keeps saying it’s a finale. But when I first read it [the script], I felt it could be a finale, but at the same time, it could be a new start. It’s my personal opinion, but if the audience’s love and support increase, we’ll never know what happens.”
This certainly isn’t confirmation of anything, but it does seem like at least, Front Man actor Lee Byung-hun isn’t ready to leave Squid Game behind, and it looks like theSeason 3finale leaves the door open for a potential Squid Gamesomethingin the future. It’s hard to imagine that Netflix would allow one of its most popular shows of all time to end after three seasons, even if that means director Hwang Dong-hyuk doesn’t return.
