Disneyhas just dropped yet another reference toKingdom Heartson its social media, all whileSquare Enixrefuses to say pretty much anything about the series.

If you’re a Kingdom Hearts fan, then you’re no doubt used to long periods of silence. Heck, thewait between Kingdom Hearts 3’s original announcement and its release was nearly six years, so it’s not like we’ve never had to wait around to hear more about the series. What’s been happening over the past few years has somehow been even worse, though.

After announcing Kingdom Hearts 4 (and the now-cancelled Missing Link) back in 2022,we’ve heard next to nothing about the future of the series, outside of somerecent peace-making screenshotsand interviews. Square Enix’s silence has been especially strange considering how open Disney has been about referencing Kingdom Hearts in recent months.

Oh come on, even Disney is talking about Kingdom Hearts more than Square Enix

At least the references are nice, I guess

As pointed out by Twitter user aitaikimochi, the official Disneyland Twitter account recently shared a video that’s a loving nod to Kingdom Hearts. The video shows someone running around dressed as Sorawhile holding one of the park’s 70th anniversary keys, which is a reference to all of the memes pointing out how similar the keys are to Keyblades.

This isn’t the first time that Disney’s social media pages have referenced Kingdom Hearts this year, either. The official Mickey Mouse Instagram page has recently been sharing some short videos, and the ones for Mickey and Donald are both hiding their weaponsfrom Kingdom Hearts as neat little easter eggs.

Disney has actually been referencing Kingdom Hearts a fair bit in recent years, especially in its animated shows and shorts.

As nice as it is to see Disney being more open about Kingdom Hearts and including more nods to it than it used to, it’s a little strange considering how silent Square Enix has been about the series lately. Many of the comments underneath the videos point that fact out, with some hoping that it’s leading up to something bigger in the future.

While the thought of seeing more of Kingdom Hearts is a nice one, it remains to be seen whether that’s really the case. All we really know right now is that Disney is doing a heck of a lot more when it comes to acknowledging the series than the people we really want to hear from.
