Square Enixhas announced a game that’s immediately drawing comparisons to classic Zelda with The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales. The latest gorgeous HD-2D adventure fromOctopath-maker Team Asano brings action-adventure to this now time-honored engine that, up until now, has been centered entirely on more traditional RPG experiences.
Starring Elliot, who looks hilariously similar to one of Final Fantasy’s stylish red mages, The Adventures of Elliot will feature swords, bows, chains, sickles, and beyond in a weaponry-focused battle system that also includes magic spells and a helpfully combat-capable fairy.
HD-2D Goes Action-Adventure
A demo is available on the Switch 2 eShop even as we speak, entitled “Debut Demo”. A post-play survey will be coming at a later date. This echoes the approach Team Asano has taken with both Octopath Traveler and the underratedTriangle Strategy, so it’s becoming common practice at this point.
The Adventures of Elliot is also coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC - although I’m not sure at the moment as to whether the demo is also available there!
Elliot, who departs his homeland of Huther, embarks on a journey to decipher the meaning behind some freshly-found ruins. The world beyond Huther is a dangerous one, so Elliot won’t have an easy time of it. Thankfully, he has his fairy friend, Faie. There’s a co-op feature in the works that’ll let a second player control Faie, and Elliot’s weapons can be infused and upgraded with Magicite, which is definitely a word from Final Fantasy, by the way.
If you’d like a hand in shaping The Adventures of Elliot’s final version, be sure to check out that free demo when you’ve got a chance so that you can frame your thoughts on the game’s work-in-progress version when the survey launches shortly thereafter.
