Summary
SpongeBob SquarePantsfans with good taste who love the original movie might want to keep an eye on Titans of the Tide, as it’s bringing back a fan-favourite character we’ve not seen in years.
As if this Summer hasn’t been busy enough for gaming news, THQ Nordic held ashowcase earlier this week that highlighted a bunch of upcoming games, including Reanimal and Darksiders 4. The best announcement of the bunch was, without a doubt, the reveal of a new SpongeBob platformer, Titans of the Tide.
Titans of the Tide’s reveal trailermade it very clear that, while it’s definitely capitalising on the upcoming movie centred around the Flying Dutchman, it also has alotof love for the first SpongeBob movie. Patrick’s flag-holding costume and the return of David Hasselhoff were evidence enough of that, but it turns out there’s something even more interesting hiding in the footage.
SpongeBob SquarePants has finally remembered that Mindy exists
Over on Twitter,eagle-eyed SpongeBob fan Scourgey pointed out that the Titans of the Tide reveal traileris hiding a cameo appearance from Princess Mindy, who was a key character in The SpongeBob SquarePants movie. Mindy can be spotted next to King Neptune in a quick shot from the trailer that you can see above.
Despite being very well-liked in the SpongeBob movie, we haven’t seen Mindy in a very long time. She’s made some cameo appearances in episodes after the movie, but beyond that, she’s basically been a no-show in the world of SpongeBob for more than 20 years. That’s finally going to change with Titans of the Tide, though.
I wouldn’t expect Mindy to play too much of a role in Titans of the Tide, as it’s likely she’s just cameoing again. I can’t imagine Scarlett Johansson returning to voice her anytime soon.
Mindy’s appearance does raise a big question, though, as the King Neptune that she’s with looks completely different than the one we saw in the movie, as he got a redesign in the show. If you want to get all “canon” about it, I suppose thatdeconfirms the theory that there are two King Neptunes in SpongeBob’s world.
