It’s safe to say thatSplitgate 2hasn’t had the start to life its developers had hoped for. Following thedisastrous Summer Game Fest showingby creator Ian Proulx andan extortionately priced cosmetic bundle, Splitgate 2 suffered dismal player numbers. The numbers were so low, in fact, that less than a month after launch,1047 Games sadly laid off staff, with the studio heads sacrificing their salaries in the process.

As more time passes, the extent of Splitgate 2’s waning player base becomes more apparent, and in 41 days, the game has dropped to a low the original took 226 to reach.

Splitgate Took 230 Days To Reach The Lows Of Splitgate 2’s Latest Peak

According to data fromSteamDB, on July 18, Splitgate 2 managed a peak concurrent player count of just 2,033 players (dropping as low as 548 at one point). That means, following its official launch on June 6, it’s reached this low point in just 41 days.

By contrast, (again using data fromSteamDB), the originalSplitgatedidn’t drop as low as that until July 18, 2025, where it peaked at 2,012 players, following its launch on Jun 28, 2025. That’s 226 days. This means Spligate 2 has dropped to ~2,000 players more than five times faster than its predecessor.

Splitgate 2’s failure is a stark contrast to Marvel Rivals' success. The 1047 shooter has now lost 92 percent of its player base in around six weeks.Marvel Rivals only lost three percent during that same length of time. The biggest competitor for Splitgate 2’s unwanted crown is the recently released Mecha Break. In just two weeks, the mech-based arena shooter has lost 66 percent of its players. It received over 5,000 negative reviews in just a period of days, with players unhappy at the game’s customization options and limited mech choices. It remains to be seen whether it will drop as low as Splitgate 2, though.
