When you think ofthe most iconic couples in gaming, a few will probably spring to mind. You’ve gotLink and Zelda,Geralt and Yennefer, orTidus and Yunaif you’re a JRPG enjoyer like myself, but the most iconic of them has to beMarioand Princess Peach, right? They’ve been at each other’s side for the best part of thirty years, and Peach has given Mario more pecks on the cheek than a particularly hungry pigeon.
It’s never explicitly stated that the two are a couple, but Nintendo’s marketing over the years, and Mario’s general disregard for his own wellbeing to go and save her whenever she’s been kidnapped, kind of implies it. Unfortunately, though, it seems our favorite plumber has been strung along this entire time.
Nintendo Confirms Mario And Princess Peach Are Just “Good Friends”
First shared bya Twitter user called KirPinkFury(thanks GamesRadar), Nintendo dropped a bombshell on its daily news app - Nintendo Today - by claiming that Mario and Peach are simply “good friends and help each other out whenever they can”. If that’s the case, then someone needs to tell Mario because I’m not so sure that he’s aware.
Of course, this is nothing new for Nintendo. We’re talking about a developer thatrefuses to answer whether Link and Zelda are in a relationship in Tears of the Kingdom, despite the two having shared a house with a single bed. Link isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed, but I think even he knows that if you’re living with someone, and you’re not in a relationship with them, you probably need more than one place to sleep.
Nintendo is most likely trying to keep its characters nice and family-friendly in the most extreme way possible, trying to ignore that romantic relationships actually exist in the real world. Then again, this does mean that Mario is a bachelor, and Rosalina is right there. Listen, all I’m saying is that Rosalina hasn’t been stringing Mario along for three decades.
