Summary

FromSoftwarehas a long and storied history of creating some of the most brutal, complex, and overwhelmingly rewarding boss encounters of all time, some of which can take you several hours to overcome. And, if you’re a completionist, some of their titles will push you to your limit,as you will have to fight every single boss to see and do everything available.

However, some boss encounters are surprisingly easy, making you sort of stop and scratch your head after delivering a swift and decisive kill on them. These encounters are rare but pop up throughout their titles, which is a bit odd considering how tremendously challenging 99 percent of their boss fights are!

The Covetous Demon moving toward the Bearer of the Curse in Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin.

10Covetous Demon

Dark Souls 2: Scholar Of The First Sin

Dark Souls 2has its fair share of incredibly easy boss encounters with the ‘this is impossible’ ones sprinkled throughout, but the Covetous Demon may take the cake as the most surprising. This boss encounter is found in the Earthen Peak section of the game, which is pretty deep in your run.

You will fight your way through Ogres, Hollows, Masked Mannequins, and more on your way to this encounter, only to dogwalk it and carry on as if nothing happened. And that’s even without factoring in the Urns you can drop to distract him, making the fight even easier!

High Lord Wolnir crawling out of the abyss in Dark Souls 3.

9High Lord Wolnir

Dark Souls 3

One of the coolest bosses inDark Souls 3is undoubtedlyHigh Lord Wolnir, whom you will encounter after an exhausting journey through the Catacombs of Carthus on your way to the stunning Irithyll of the Boreal Valley. While he is a towering skeleton that covers a tremendous range, he isn’t all that challenging.

He may trip you up once by vomiting darkness from his mouth that deals tons of damage, but once you learn that you can run away from him until it’s over, it quickly becomes trivialized. His giant, glowing bracelets are also very ‘hit me here,’ something we rarely see in FromSoftware games outside of a few encounters in Demon’s Souls. This fight is as easy as it gets!

Pinwheel waiting for the Chosen Undead in the depths of the Catacombs in Dark Souls.

8Pinwheel

Dark Souls Remastered

Since going through the cemetery once you reach Firelink Shrine inDark Soulswill have you begging for mercy, forcing you to come back much later in your playthrough, you sort of start building up the horrors that might await you when you finally get strong enough to explore that area further.

Awaiting at the depths of the Catacombs is Pinwheel, one of the easiest, if not THE easiest, boss in the entire game, and one you may likely defeat without breaking a sweat as soon as you reach the Firelink Shrine. So long as you sprint past everything else. The Catacombs can be very rough to navigate, but this encounter makes you wonder if you’re being pranked with how easy it is!

The Mist Noble playing a flute, creating illusions in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

7Mist Noble

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

Speaking of bosses that make you feel like you’re being pranked, look no further than the Mist Noble inSekiro: Shadows Die Twice, which is arguably the easiest boss encounter FromSoftware ever created across all of their titles.

On your way to this boss, you fight Snake Eyes Shirahagi and Shirafuji, Headless Ape, Shichimen Warrior, and Tokujiro the Glutton, all of whom will put up a fight and test your skills.

The Penetrator approaching the Slayer of Demons with his sword drawn in Demon’s Souls.

As you push deeper and deeper into the mist-shrouded forest, you will wonder what other nightmarish encounters lie ahead, only to simply enter the abandoned temple at the end of the forest to deliver two quick Deathblows on a defenseless Mist Noble. It’s that easy. This had us looking around cautiously for the ‘real’ big bad to show up, and it never did!

6Penetrator

Demon’s Souls

Demon’s Soulsarguably has the largest selection of easy bosses in FromSoftware’s entire catalog, as the real challenge is navigating from bonfire to bonfire, hoping you can keep your resources intact for the boss battle. If you have enough heals, you can likely defeat around 90 percent of the bosses on your first or second attempt.

Still, the Penetrator encounter still surprises us with how easy it is, and we think that largely stems from how sick he looks. His attacks are all very linear with pretty exaggerated startups, making it easy to read, react to, and counter. Getting to him in one piece may be a different story, but once you’re in his arena, you will likely make quick work of him!

The Soul of Cinder approaching the Ashen One in Dark Souls 3.

5Soul Of Cinder

We’re not sure if it’s becauseDark Souls 3is a MUCH bigger game than most of the others before it, but by the time you reachSoul of Cinder, the game’s final boss, you are quite overpowered, especially if you love to explore and fight all the optional bosses.

When we reached the Soul of Cinder for the first time, we were prepared for hours of battle, only to take him down on the first attempt, which was quite shocking. While he has the potential to be very challenging if you ignore side content and go in with a modest level, most players won’t do that and will likely steamroll him as well!

The Nameless King riding on the back of his Stormdrake, King of the Storm, hurling lightning bolts at his opponents in Elden Ring Nightreign.

4Nameless King

Elden Ring Nightreign

A name that will strike fear into the hearts of many, having flashbacks of endless hours of grinding one fight in Dark Souls 3, is none other than the Nameless King, one of the most brutal fights in the base version of the game. However, the tides have seemingly shifted inElden Ring Nightreign, having us ask ourselves, ‘Is this really the same guy?!’

Yup, the Nameless King and his trusty Stromdrake, King of the Storms, can be one of the many boss encounters at the end of Day 2 in Elden Ring Nightreign, which was teased in the reveal trailer for the game. However, unlike the encounter in Dark Souls 3,this one is far more tame and manageable, allowing you to beat him down relentlessly for that sweet, sweet revenge!

Amygdala resting in front of the lift tower in Bloodborne.

3Amygdala

Bloodborne

Traversing the Nightmare Frontier is a gruelling experience inBloodborne, as it has FromSoft’s famous poison swamp within it, along with Giant Lost Children who toss massive boulders at you, the eerie Winter Lanterns, and Hunters, making it one of the toughest places to inch your way through in the entire game.

Making matters worse, the thing that awaits you at the end is one of the towering, many-armed beasts you begin seeing appear around Yharnam as your Insight rises more and more:Amygdala.Despite its creepy look and devastating laser beam attack, this encounter is surprisingly easy, especially after the nightmare (sorry) you’ve just slogged through!

Sir Gideon Ofnir, the All-Knowing, gesturing with a shrug as the Tarnished approaches him in Elden Ring.

2Sir Gideon Ofnir, The All-Knowing

Elden Ring

It can be tricky gauging the difficulty of a boss encounter inElden Ring, as there are thousands upon thousands of things you can do in the game to dramatically raise your level, making some boss fights seem trivial, depending on how much you love exploring.

Even with that in mind,Sir Gideon Ofnir, the All-Knowing,is a joke of a boss encounter that we’re sure no one would struggle against even with a Level 1 character. Any little attack will stun-lock him, allowing you to just bully him until he’s defeated. It’s bizarre how easy this encounter is, considering how deep into the game it is!

1Divine Dragon

Lastly, some of you likely saw this one coming: the Divine Dragon encounter fromSekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Is this encounter breathtakingly beautiful? Yes. Is it one of the coolest moments in the entire game? Also yes. Does it offer any real challenge at all? Unfortunately, no. Despite this being a towering dragon that wields the Seven-Branched Sword, you will have it taken down in mere minutes.

Overall, this is more or less a gimmick fight that is more cinematic than it is challenging, making it super surprising in a game like Sekiro where 99 percent of boss encounters in the game will have you cursing under your breath as you mindlessly hop back into the arena for the 20th time in a row. We love this encounter, don’t get us wrong, but it isshockinghow easy it is!
