Summary

When you think ofSkyrim, chances are its reputation for beingone of the most re-released games of all timecomes to mind. It’s a reputation so deserved that even Bethesda got in on the joke witha silly commercial back in 2019, that had Keegan Michael Key playing Skyrim on an Etch-a-Sketch and a Samsung Smart Fridge. It’s been re-released quite a lot, whether it be a straight port or remaster.

You’d have thought that with all the different versions of Skyrim dotted around the place, fans of the game wouldn’t have much of an appetite for potentially buying the game again, but that actually doesn’t appear to be the case. Thanks to the success ofThe Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, some Skyrim fans are looking on with envy in their eyes.

Skyrim Fans Are Secretly Hoping For An Oblivion-Style Remaster

First put to the Skyrim subreddit by a user called OkayRuin, they asked the community at large whether they’d be down to buy Skyrim again if it got the Unreal Engine 5 remaster treatment like Oblivion has, claiming that they “wouldn’t hesitate” themselves.

Turns out, it’s not as unpopular of an idea as you might think, as a user called Rugbymoose 12367 admits that they’ve “rebought Skyrim for less”. Then you have users like Absolutedebauchery0, who really do want to hate the idea, but eventually admit that they “probably would” at the end of the day.

Skoltheus admits that playing through Oblivion “only had me wanting to play Skyrim more”, and a user called ReyDeathWish goes as far as saying that everyone who says no is “lying to themselves”. Another user called Kisame83 admits that they would too, but also says that they “know [they] have a problem”, so I guess it’s good there’s some self-reflection there.

I can’t go through all the comments here, as pretty much every one of them is a fan admitting that they would buy a remaster, despite the wait for The Elder Scrolls 6 being so long already. I guess I’ll talk to you all again in 2027, when Bethesda drops Skyrim: The Super Special Remaster Edition.
