For the most part,Bethesdahad gotten along very well with its modding community, so it’s no wonder that its games are among the most modded in the gaming industry. For many,Skyrimis synonymous with its modding community, as even those playing on console can enjoy these fan-made creations.
Now, it looks like Bethesda wants to double down on this. Bethesda recentlyinvited the team behind Skyblivion- a remake of Oblivion made in Skyrim - to the studio for the day. Here, the devs discussed the team’s work, but also asked for advice on how it can better serve modders going forward.
This comes from an interview withPC Gamer, in which Skyblivion lead Rebelzize shares what they discussed with Bethesda devs during their visit.
“Bethesda is a company that has a really strong connection to mods and modding, and the folks there were really interested in hearing our perspective,” says Rebelzize. “How we experienced using those tools, what kind of issues we run into, and what we’d like to see in terms of documentation.”
Rebelzize told Bethesda that they would like to see the studio put out videos alongside the release of the Creation Kit for a game, making it more accessible. This was done with Skyrim, and we all know how that’s blown up.
Skyblivion is set to launch at some point later this year. It has been in development for more than a decade, and it was only coincidental that it’sgoing to drop the same year as the official Oblivion Remastered. The devs have repeatedly said that they haveno issue with their labour of love launching so close to Oblivion Remastered, and judging from what we’ve seen so far,Skyblivion can certainly hold its own against it. Besides, these are two different visions of Cyrodiil, and two different takes on a remake/remaster, so there’s value to be found in both games.
In fact, very recently, Rebelzize explained one of the key differences between Oblivion Remastered and Skyblivion. In Skyblivion, dungeons have been overhauled to be made more rewarding, whereas the remaster kept them much the same, since it was a more faithful re-release. With Skyblivion willing to make changes, this could be the perfect way to explore Cyrodiil if Oblivion’s gameplay doesn’t cut it for you.
