Although the upcoming live-serviceSkatereboot has seen a lot of negative feedback from fans when it comes to its live-service elements, visuals, and even game feel, its leads are still confident that it’s the “best Skate has ever felt”.

Over the past decade and a half since Skate 3 originally released all the way back in 2010, fans have been chomping at the bit for EA to finally bring the series back in a big way. That wish seemed like it was going to be granted in 2020when a fourth game was finally confirmed, but it’s fair to say that it’s been a bit of a mixed road for Skate since then.

The past year or so has seen many Skate playtests taking place, with the most recent one being publically shared and commented on.While fans do seem to have chilled out on the Skate reboot a littlecompared to the last playtest from earlier in the year, the reaction still hasn’t been great, with mostlong-term fans pointing out the cartoonish visuals, lack of skater energy, and live-service issues.

Not sure veterans agree with that one

Those complaints are very common over in the Skate subreddit, but players have also pointed out that the rebootdoesn’t quite feel right compared to the other games. It seems that the developers over at Full Circle are still very confident in the game, though,as one of the leads recently suggested during an interview with GamesRadar+.

Yesterday,GamesRadar+ and other outlets shared previews for the Skate reboot, which included chatting to some of the lead developers. In the case of GR, they chatted with Jeff Seamster, head of creative for Full Circle, who was a lot more positive on the Skate reboot than most fans have been in the past few months.

Seamster emphasized that the “feel of the game” is one of the most important things to Skate, and that it’s the “epicenter of what this franchise is about”. While that’s certainly true and something most fans would agree with, Seamster also says that the team “nailed” the feeling, and that the new Skate is “the best Skate has ever felt” and the “best it’s ever played”.

When we started, we reached a point where we had fully restored the entire Skate 3 engine and integrated it into the current Frostbite engine. Getting that feeling was important, and we nailed it. - Jeff Seamster

While it’s true that the developers are going to be more positive about the game and that most fans seem to be a bit more on board with the recent playtest over the last ones, it is quite a bold claim considering all of themixed reception that Skate has gotten over the past few months. Here’s hoping the game feel can make up for most of the other bugbears.
