InThe Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, you’ll work with numerous people to make the land of Cyrodiil a better place. However, you can also choose to wreak havoc across the land and further the plots of the Daedra worshippers in Tamriel. You won’t always know exactly what you’re doing until you’re in the middle of it.
However, in the case of the Crimson Cave, it’s quite clear that you’re pursuing a dangerous cult. We’ll help you locate the necessary notes and sleeper agent so you can find the cave and complete your initiation–unless you’d rather destroy them from within instead.
Where To Find The Burning Trail Notes
Before you find the Crimson Cave, you’ll come acrossthe Burning Trail quest. In this, you’ll need tofollow a secretive trail of notesacross Cyrodiil tofind a mysterious Mythic Dawn agent.
There arefour Mythic Dawn Pamphletsto find, and they can be found in the following places:
You only need toread the pamphlets to progress, you don’t need to pick them up.
Location
Mythic Dawn Pamphlet 1
In the Talos Plaza of the Imperial City, on a barrel.
Mythic Dawn Pamphlet 2
On the back of a tree following the wolf statue’s gaze from Hircine’s Shrine.
Near the Molag Bal shrine, following the sun.
Mythic Dawn Pamphlet 4
On the inside of the basin of the Lady Luck statue in Bravil.
Once you find the notes, head to the Lonely Suitor Lodgeand talk to the innkeeper about locating a shy Dunmer. Hepoints you to Ranalinewho lives not far from the Lady Luck statue.
Talk with her to get a set of Mythic Dawn Robes, a Mythic Dawn hood, anddirections to the pyre.
If Ranaline claims not to know what you’re talking about, try usingthe persuasion minigameto raise her disposition. Bribes with gold also work.
Should You Light The Pyre?
Backtrack to Hircine’s Shrine andventure south to find Mingo Cave. Make sure toequip the Mythic Dawn attirebefore entering, otherwise the cultists will turn hostile and immediately attack.
Inside, the typical cave layout has beenconverted into a Mythic Dawn hideout. Chat with the cultists if you want, but make your way deeper tofind an ImperialGuardin a cage, with two cult leaders and a Dremora standing by.
Speak with the Dremora, known as Mehrune’s Harbinger, to learn thatthe honor of lighting the pyre is yoursfor the taking. You need onlyinteract with the cageto do so and incinerate theGuard.
It’s worth noting that you may kill the cultists, but there’s no way to truly free theguard.
If you choose tokill the cultists, Mehrune’s Harbinger is pleased that you wrought havoc on those too weak to serve the Daedric lord. It’s far easier toslay theguardand maintain good relationswith the cult, though benevolent heroes of Kvatch may prefer to purge them.
Regardless, the quest will conclude aftertalking once more with the Dremora. She’ll teach you a spell calledSummon Mehrunes' Harbinger. This conjurationspell has no cost and can be used at any timeto summon her.
Once summoned, speak with her toreceive your rewards–of which there are many.
