While sidequests inLies of P: Overturetypically give big combat-oriented items or collectibles as rewards, Salao’s sidequest is a bit of an oddity. Offering very little in reward, most of Salao’s interaction culminates in story enrichment and something that will stir one’s feelings.
Similar to the story of Moby Dick, Salao has dedicated the end of his life in the pursuit of one big, special fish. And having caught it, there is just one small bit of unfinished business up to the player to sort. But whether you choose to lie or be honest at the very end will determine just what that unfinished business really means.
How To Start Salao’s Quest
Salao can be found on the coastlinenext to the Shipwreck Exterior Stargazer. From that Stargazer:
Speak with Salao, and he will tell you about his woes regarding the catching of this fish and the bet he had over his success.
He will ask you tofetch the bottle of beerhe had used as collateral for his debt. Accept this.
You do not need to exhaust all of Salao’s dialoguefor this quest to progress. Only asking what is needed to help is required.
How To Find Salao’s Beer
Continue far past Salao’s location, you will eventuallycome across the fishing villageSalao mentioned. Unfortunately, this village is now overrun with carcasses.
There is nothing left in the village for you now, so continue through the village until youreach the Lighthouse.
Go up the stairsuntil you find a room with a metal shelving unit on the back wall.Pick up the items on the shelfto collect:
With this beer in hand, you can nowreturn to Salao.
This lighthouse is also tied to the Black Rabbit Brotherhood and Rosaura sidequests as well as the Frozen Cipher target location, warranting further exploration.
Should I Tell Salao The Truth?
When you return to Salao later, he will thank you for the bottle of beer andask you about the fate of the villagers.
Here, you will have to decide if you wish totell the truth or speak a lie:
Everyone in the village was impressed with your catch (Lie).
Salao becomes nostalgic and smiles before his death. He grants you the Fisherman’s Weathered Key.
Everyone in the village is dead (Truth).
Salao laments the villages and falls into despair shortly before his death. No reward.
If you chose to tell Salao a lie, you canuse the Fisherman’s Weathered Keyin the fishing village.Return to the Lighthouse Stargazerand go to thehouse on the leftoutside.
