It’s a moment that feels like it could shape your fate.
But what exactly are the stakes? Is the artifact worth it? Do the questions reveal vital lore, secrets, or gameplay advantages? Today, we’ll walk you through what each option offers, how to find Caradoc, and what else you might uncover nearby.
Where To Find Caradoc
From the beachwhere you first wake up, head west along the path until you reach a fork. Take the southern routetoward the Gallows. Once you pass through the East Gate, continue heading north.
Be ready for some hostile enemies along the way.
Stay on the path running aboveBlood Lakeand keep an eye out for a druidic shrine on your right. You’ll eventually pass under somedecorated ropes and skulls hanging between two trees. At the next fork, turn right. Up ahead, you’ll spot astatue of a womanholding a bow. Cross the stone stairs across from the statue tofind Caradoclounging under a tree.
Interacting with the statue of a womanincreases your archeryskill.
Talk to Caradoc and pick the dialogue option:“Aren’t you going to help me get Excalibur?”He’ll offer you the options of asking a question for truthful answers or taking an artifact. If you say“And now — safe travels,”in the dialogue box, the conversation ends and Caradoc disappears.
The Questions And The Answers
Choosing to ask Caradoc a question might seem tempting, butit’s abit of a trap. If you select“I’ll take the question,”you’ll get a list of six options to choose from. He’ll give you a thorough and honest answer to whichever one you pick, but once he does,he leaves immediately, and you lose the chance to claim the artifact. The answers to each question are below.
Answers
“Who are you?”
“I think what you really wanted to ask is who I was. Many centuries ago, I was a knight of theRound Table.”
“Now I am a hunter—hunting for what is left of our king, and at the same time trying to clean up the mess he made—with his whole life and his decisions.”
“How did you manage to survive?”
“This is the only question I cannot answer. And even if I could, you wouldn’t believe me. You will see it with your own eyes… very soon.”
“Why do you hate King Arthur so much?”
“The Arthur I swore loyalty to was a man, not a rotting corpse. A corpse that mindlessly destroys everything in its path, supposedly for the good of Avalon. He was noble, brave, and just.”
“At least, that’s what I thought when I was young and naive. Now I know the man I admired was a fabrication.”
“He played games with nature. He brought ruin to this land. And in the end, he lacked the courage to let go, but it had to be done.”
“Why did you help me escape?”
“So many questions you could ask, and that’s the one you’re interested in. Fine, he won’t be happy, but I gave you my word. The man who came up with this whole plan is thehigh druid named Orrin.”
“He is the last surviving student of Merlin himself. And you will definitely meet him when the time comes. Just remember, few know that he is still alive. He prefers it that way.”
“How can I get Excalibur?”
“That’s for you to figure out. I suspect you’ll have to find a way to wield that power and survive. If it were easy, someone else would have done it long ago.”
“But if it’s possible at all, I’d say the best chance is for someone with a shard of the king’s soul inside. The only advice I can give you is to seek outBrendan, captain of the Southern Horns.”
“In the old days, the Keepers performed a ritual that allowed them to withstandExcalibur’spower for longer. You should find out more about that.”
“Why do the Red Brothers torture people?”
“They are convinced it’s for the greater good. Stopping theRed Deathis more important to them than anything, no matter the cost.”
“In the end, they became obsessed with taming Mari. History, you see, has a nasty habit—it repeats itself over and over, while the innocent suffer.”
If You Choose The Artifact
If you choose the artifact option, Caradoc willacknowledge it as a wise choice, though he seems a bit surprised. After a short comment, he vanishes and rewards you with:
No matter which dialogue option you pick,it won’t affect the overall storyor progression.
While you’re at the Shrine of a Forgotten God, take a moment toexplore theLair of the Beastcave just behind where Caradoc was standing. Head past the beast’s corpse, and you’ll find a chest andThe Questing Beast Eggyou can grab.
Why Should You Choose The Artifact
Choose the Artifact.Caradoc’s honest answers might be great for lore hunters, butthe stat boost the artifact gives istoo good to pass up. Couple that with the fact that there’s no real reward for choosing the question, and this is an easy choice.
