Summary

Remedyhas confirmed that it’s not going to be in charge of theMax Payneremakes' marketing and that it’ll be entirely up toRockstar Gameswhen we see it.

Considering the fact that itwasn’t that long ago when Remedy released its last and biggest game, Alan Wake 2, it’s easy to forget that the studio has a ton of projects in development right now. From FBC to Control 2, Remedy iskeeping itself very busy in the coming years, and that’s not even including perhaps its most exciting project of all.

I am, of course, talking about the remakes of the first two Max Payne games, which were confirmed to be in the works some time ago as a collaboration between Remedy and Rockstar. We’ve not heard too much about the project just yet, despite how open Remedy is about development, and it seems there’s a good reason for that.

Rockstar Is In Charge Of Revealing The Max Payne Remakes

Translation: Don’t Expect Them Any Time Soon

As pointed out by Twitter user videotechuk_and originally shared byRedditor Slight-Willow-3444 in the Max Payne subreddit, Remedy’s CEO Tero Virtala recently took part in a Q&A during an investor’s call. Virtala was asked about the possibility of teasing the Max Payne remakes at some point this year, considering we know they’re in development.

In response, Virtala reiterated that the remake project is being published byRockstar(with Remedy developing), which means that it’s going to be in charge of marketing the game. That means its reveal and any subsequent news or teases is going to be completely up to Rockstar itself and not to do with Remedy.

All the communications and marketing is in their hands and we are not commenting anything on that. - Tero Virtala

That’s a real shame considering how upfront Remedy has been in the past about the progress of its games, and even more so with how secretive Rockstar tends to be. Withall of its attention (and the whole world’s, let’s be real) on Grand Theft Auto 6, it seems like it’s going to be a long time until we hear more about it.
