Summary

Resident Evilhas come in many forms over the years, going from fixed camera angles to pioneering the over-the-shoulder perspective, with a bit of first-person thrown in there for good measure with the more recent games. However, now that the events ofResident Evil Villageare all wrapped up in a nice little bow, we actually don’t know what the future of the series will look like.

Resident Evil Requiem was announced during Summer Game Fest last week, but the trailer was severely lacking in any gameplay, meaning we had no idea what kind of camera perspectiveCapcomwould go for this time. It was recently claimed by insider Dusk Golem thatLeon Kennedy would be the main character, suggesting it would be third-person, but we’ve now found out that’s not the case.

Resident Evil Requiem Will Let You Switch Between First And Third-Person

In a first for the series, Capcom has decided to simply skip the headaches over whether to go first or third-person, and is leaving it up to the players. Revealed at Summer Game Fest, Resident Evil Requiem will be playable in both first and third-person, depending on your preference, and the game will even let you seamlessly switch between the camera perspectives in the pause menu.

It will definitely be interesting to see how Capcom implements such a feat, especially since the whole tone of a game can shift pretty dramatically depending on the camera angle. It will also mean that, if the leaks are true, Leon Kennedy will be playable in first-person for the first time, though why you’d want to hide that beautiful man from your TV screen is beyond me.

In any case, we’re going to be waiting for a while to see how Resident Evil Requiem actually plays, but at least that gives us plenty of time to prepare. A lot of people are using the time to play Resident Evil Outbreak, the game that stars Grace’s mother Alyssa, since it could be connected to the events of Requiem. In fact, so many people have done this thatthe game’s fan servers recently hit an all-time peak of 5,635.
