Summary

Eagle-eyedResident Evilfans have pointed out that Alyssa Ashcroft, a key character inResident Evil Requiem, actually made a cameo all the way back inResident Evil 7.

Yesterday’s Summer Game Fest showcasewas one of the biggest rollercoasters for Resident Evil fans. After cheekily saying that Resident Evil 9 would need a little more timebefore being shown off, Capcom pulled an amazing bait and switch by announcingResident Evil Requiem as the show’s final reveal.

What we saw of the ninth Resident Evil was very interesting,as it’s introducing a character called Grace Ashcroft who appears to be one of Requiem’s protagonists. If you’re a long-term Resident Evil fan, the name Ashcroft probably rang a few bells, as Grace is the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft,an investigative reporter who first appeared in Resident Evil Outbreak.

Resident Evil Requiem’s Alyssa Was Actually Referenced In Resident Evil 7

It Seems She Didn’t Survive For Much Longer After That, Though

Sadly, the trailer for Requiem confirms that Alyssa was killed at some point after the Resident Evil Outbreak games, as Grace is reluctant to go to the hotel where she died to help with an investigation. It’s not really known what happened to Alyssa so far, as it’s clearly going to be a part of Requiem’s story, but fans have pointed out that she’s actually appeared in a recent Resident Evil game.

Over on Twitter, horrorvisuals highlighted that Alyssa Ashcroft’s last appearance in a Resident Evil game was actually in Resident Evil 7of all games. As you can see from the screenshot above, a newspaper article can be found in the Baker’s mansion in Resident Evil 7 that was written by Alyssa Ashcroft in 2016, making that her last known appearance in the series.

The article itself is talking about the Baker mansion and everything strange going on surrounding it, so it has nothing to do with Requiem and is just a nice nod to the character as a whole. The date on the article does suggest that she was alive for quite some time after Outbreak, but considering Requiem notes that she died “eight years ago” and is presumably fairly modern, she seemingly died shortly after.

Let’s be real, though, Requiem isn’t really going to take into account a small easter egg from Resident Evil 7 into its story.

We’ll find out for sure how/if the timelines match up when Requiem launches next February, but for now, it’s nice to see just how far the Ashcroft name has travelled in the series. We just wish Alyssa was still around to see it.
