Rematchhas left advanced access and is now available to all players. Sloclap will be gladdened to see that a large proportion of the beta player base, at least on Steam, has decided to purchase the game. The beta peaked at 160,000 concurrent players on Steam, while Rematch currently sitsat almost 93,000.

However, Rematch still has its issues. There are still complaints of network and latency issues, though the network stability is better than during Rematch’s final beta. The game still has no reporting, honour or punishment system, meaning players are free to grief and/or verbally abuse their teammates, and the penalty for leaving a game is minimal.

There may be even bigger problems afoot for Sloclap asMateusz9 has posted a videoon the game’s subreddit showing a clear cheater. The cheater seems to have some sort of lag-fuelled infinite sprint, and they use this exploit to run a rubber-banding ball down the field into the opposition’s goals.

Rematch is equipped with Easy Anti-Cheat, which can filter out the most egregious cheat engines, but there are a myriad of ways around EAC for those dedicated (and sad) enough. I’ve not encountered any cheaters in my time with the game, but since I play with a five-stack, the chance of seeing these players is greatly reduced.

Cheaters are another problem that can be countered with a robust reporting and punishment system, though anti-cheat tends to be an ongoing effort throughout a game’s life cycle. Studios orders of magnitude bigger than Sloclap struggle to stop cheaters, such as Valve and DICE.

Sloclap is a relatively small team, and they’ve already announced that getting crossplay online is its immediate priority. Players will inevitably complain about cheaters and griefers because it ruins one’s experience with the game, but solutions aren’t always easy or expedient.

Arecent post from Sloclapoutlined the studio’s immediate priorities and detailed what it’s hoping to implement immediately after launch. There is no mention of a reporting system.

Rematch is currently available on PC, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5.
