A new video from leaker Moore’s Law Is Dead shines quite a bit of light on the potential specs forSony’supcoming PlayStation 6. Despite the leak itself dating back two years, the source for this intriguing batch of info has been able to confirm that it’s a blend of probably-still-true and certainly-the-case.

As a reminder, PlayStation 6 will come in two form factors: a traditional home console and ahandheld device. Moore’s Law Is Dead covers the work-in-progress technical specifications for both, and even notes the likely validity of PS6’s release window. Let’s dive in.

The Next Generation May Be Coming Sooner Than You’d Like

Time was, we’d celebrate the pending arrival of Sony’s next big gaming kit. Yet, in some ways, even half a decade down the road, it still feels like PlayStation 5 is still warming up. C’est la vie. Moore’s Law Is Dead has personally backed up, citing more recent sources, that the company’s 2023-era vision of a PlayStation 6 hitting store shelves between late 2027 and early 2028 is still the general plan. “This is data from a proposal AMD was making to Sony years ago,” Moore Law Is Dead explains.

In athorough YouTube videothat covers not only the two PS6 formats' respective target specs, but a thoughtful analysis as to whether they’ll be “too weak for next-gen” - spoilers, he thinks they’re actually quite fine - Moore’s Law Is Dead has jotted down every technical detail in one of two colours. If it’s white, it’s old info (that he nevertheless believes is still broadly accurate, even if actual parts shift before production). If it’s blue, he’s confident the intel is still entirely correct.

“Despite everyone out there seemingly speculating that the PlayStation 6 is going to be some ‘one-thousand-dollar console or something’, simply because the PS5 Pro wasn’t cheap, that does not seem to be the route Sony is going this time around. No, the round Sony is going, from what I can tell, is to bring better-than-PS5-Pro performance to lower pricing tiers, and to have a handheld APU that can sell as a Switch 2 competitor.” -Moore’s Law Is Dead

While I do recommend watching the leaker’s video for plenty of specific insights, a kindly Redditor has helpfully compiled a post that shorthands all the key bits:

Of course, none of this is trulyconfirmed, nor will it be for quite some time if the PlayStation 6 isn’t launching until at least Fall 2027. A leaker is a leaker, no matter how reliable they may have proven themselves to be; we’d never pretend otherwise.

As for myself, I do wish PS6 wouldn’t come until late 2028. There’s just not been enough on PS5 yet for its successor to be a mere two years away, you know? That said, I’m glad Sony is allegedly aiming fora more relaxed price point. I haven’t picked up aPS5 Probecause it’s just too darn expensive, and I don’t foresee that changing any time soon.
