Summary

Several insiders have claimed that a port ofRed Dead Redemption 2for theNintendo Switch 2is currently being worked on and could even release at some point this year alongside a current-gen update.

With the long-awaited Grand Theft Auto 6 set for release in just over a year’s time, you’d think thatRockstar Gameswould be putting all of its attention on that monumental game. That reportedly isn’t the case, however, as the studio seemingly has a fewother irons in the fire right now aside from GTA 6.

Earlier this week,it was reported that Grand Theft Auto 4 might finally be getting ported over to the Nintendo Switch and PS4, just like the original Red Dead Redemption did last year. While that seems to be a basic re-release, it’s now being claimed that a more exciting port is being worked on for a newer console.

And It Might Even Happen This Year

As reported by Nintendo Lifeand originallyclaimed by GameReactor and Nintenduo, the next Rockstar port that’s being worked on is for none other than Red Dead Redemption 2. According to those insiders, a Nintendo Switch 2 version of Red Dead Redemption 2 is currently being worked on and will be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 in the near future.

While there’s no specific release window in mind, the reports claim that the new port will release during Rockstar’s current fiscal year, which means before 31st March 2026.With GTA 6 so close to that final day of the fiscal year, it seems likelier that we’ll see the port before 2025 is over, if the leaks are true.

GameReactor also claims that a current-gen updatefor the PlayStation and Xbox versions of Red Dead Redemption 2 is also in the works and planned for release at the same time. I speak for us all when I say: FINALLY!

While it might seem a little ridiculous to think that a game as good-looking and intensive as Red Dead Redemption 2 could ever run on a portable console like the Switch 2,we’ve already seen how much Nintendo’s new console is capable of. If it can runCyberpunk 2077as well as it is, then it’s likely that the wizards at Rockstar can figure out a way to make Red Dead work as well. Just don’t expect 60fps on Switch.
