Summary
Remasters and remakes have carved their own niche in the gaming industry. They allow newer players to experience classic titles while also giving older fans a new way to play their favourite games remade with modern technology. The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion RemasteredandResident Evil 2are perhaps the best examples of this.
However, not every game or series needs to follow this trend. The Last of Us: Part 2andHorizon: Zero Dawnhave also got remasters despite being relatively modern games and looking great even today. But what about 10 years from now? Perhaps even a game likeRed Dead Redemption 2will look dated then. Arthur Morgan actor Roger Clark believes that no matter how good it looks now, we may possibly see a remake of RDR2 in the future.
Speaking to TheGamer, Clark said that technology is only getting better, and, somewhere down the line, even a game as visually stunning as Red Dead Redemption 2 might warrant a remake or remaster. Rockstar has already shown that it’s on board with the trend, with the first Red Dead Redemption and even classic GTA titles getting remasters.
“I think it’s already starting to happen,” says Clark. “What’s also starting to happen is that classic games, games that did well, and games that still are able to hold on to their fandom are getting remastered now more than ever before. So, I don’t know, the data isn’t going anywhere, but the technology to refine its graphics is only just going to keep getting better and better.
“I don’t think a remake of [Red Dead Redemption 2] is something that we can write off for the future, or a remaster. We’ve already started to see it for GTA 5 and the original Red Dead Redemption. So, I think possibly it’ll remain in the limelight with modern versions of the same game, because the stories are what keeps the players coming back.”
It’s weird to think that a game that looks as good as Red Dead Redemption 2 would ever need a remaster. But, as Clark pointed out, who knows how tech in the future will evolve? And, if there is scope to improve on games that look perfect right now, RDR2 will surely be up for it.
