Ready or Nothas been embroiled in somewhat of a scandal over the past few days, as legions of fans are angry at what they perceive to bedeliberate censorship by developer Void Interactive. In order to keep the game’s ESRB rating on consoles and ensure crossplay, Void was required to make sure Ready or Not had the same rating on PC, meaning some of the more problematic elements of the game were altered.

Having to remove some gore and nudityin order to properly implement crossplay between PC and consoles has been seen as a sensible sacrifice by many, but that hasn’t stopped the game’s Steam reviews from plunging to Mostly Negative over the past few days. A sizable chunk of Ready or Not’s audience is pretty annoyed, going so far as to organize boycottsand demand the removed content return.

Ready Or Not Will Let Players Mod Altered Material Back Into The Game

Unsurprisingly, Void isn’t willing to miss out on crossplay so people can see naked hostages and indecent images of children, but has offered fans that are desperate to see that sort of thing an alternate. In a post on the Ready or Not Discord channel (shared by Reddit user Tl-Viper), a Void developer going by the name Kaminsky explained that Void will allow players to mod all the altered content back into the game if they wish.

That seems to have both appeased and angered Ready or Not fans, some of whom are now arguing that this is proof Void could have simply added a toggle, but that’s not really the case. A toggle would mean that the problematic content would still be in the game, and therefore not give Ready or Not its ESRB rating, which is the whole reason why the changes were made in the first place.

The option to mod the content back in will be there for people that want to play the game on PC as its first released, but are happy to miss out on crossplay, as the feature probably won’t be supported if you have mods installed. It’s essentially a clever workaround that gives everyone what they want, though some seem determined to attack Void incessantly over something so minor.
