Last month,TheGamerreported how, despite its massive controversyamong hardcoreNintendofans and physical game collectors, some people were already gettingNintendo Switch 2game key cardsgraded by authentication services in the hopes of cashing in years down the line for an enormous haul.

That’s important context, because one Nintendo fan is hoping to cash in on a rare collection piece — the legendary and extremely rare 1990 Nintendo World Championship competition cartridge.

This Not-For-Retail Game Can Be Yours For Just $70,000

In a new story from The Telegram, it was revealed that Brad Mouland, a long-time video game fanatic and retro game collector, managed to get his hands on the ultra-rare gray competition cartridge of the 1990 Nintendo World Championship game for the NES.

The collector learned about the item online, and within days he was on his way to Boston to go buy the game from another collector. Mouland paid $25,000 for the game, needing to sell a good portion of his collection to afford it, and now reportedly stands as one of three Canadians to have a legitimate copy.

“It’s beyond reach now… It’s quite unbelievable because of how few there are,” he said. “It’s quite the item to have in the collection. It’s the holy grail of Nintendo, or even video game collecting.”

Now, he’s hoping to turn around and sell it for $70,000. The money, he says, will go to his daughter’s college fund.

If he can’t find a seller, then he’ll continue to hold onto the copy. Currently, it’s sitting in a safety deposit box, remaining untouched and unplayed until there’s a seller with the cash to fork over for it. Talk about literally sitting on thousands of dollars.
