TheResident Evilseries features many outbreaks occurring in deserted islands, chaotic cities, and secluded facilities. Add in the numerous dangers from mindless zombies to super-powered humans, and any normal person would immediately find themselves overwhelmed.

Leon, Chris, Clair, Jill, and the rest all have reasons to keep pushing forward, even if at times they make decisions that no one else would make. They are braver than most, have the proper training, and even the backup needed to stay cool in these situations. So, how would anyone else react in the situations they’re put in? In some cases, it’s easy to bail, in others, you just have to brave it out.

Ethan Winters is one of the bravest characters in the Resident Evil series. He simply follows his wife’s message to the Bayou, leaves his car behind, and treks forward into the unknown. Ethan may be a civilian just like the rest of us, but he makes decisions no one else would.

A few minutes into his investigation, he discovers the dismembered parts of animals tied to the branches of the trees. That’s a huge red flag that will make everyone else turn back around, leave, and call the authorities. Not to mention that Ethan loses a foot and simply puts it back on.

Leon and Claire both get into town pretty easily. Especially when they arrive while the outbreak is still going strong. Their biggest mistake is driving deeper into Raccoon City when they could have just gone in the opposite direction and fled.

This is probably the most logical answer for anyone trapped in their shoes. The city is infested with zombies? Nope, I’m out of here. It is reasonable for anyone else to simply go in the opposite direction and drive non-stop until they reach civilization.

Leon is a real powerhouse in Resident Evil 4. He can land a shot on a Ganados' face, then kick groups of them down while they’re vulnerable. He’s got this cocky attitude in the original game and, in the remake, continues to show off his new skills.

As for any other person in his shoes, this scenario is even more terrifying. These aren’t your typical slow zombies. This is a parasite-infested hive mind that can use weapons and chase you down. In this scenario, you want to be like Leon, but ultimately, you’re more likely to be like Ashley.

Any normal human being trying to punch a boulder like Chris Redfield will end up with a broken hand. So don’t try it at home. This scenario would be just as deadly to handle as Leon’s scenario, with the exception that the military is more involved in the action.

So, perhaps you stand a chance at making it out if you can make it to a checkpoint. Saving the world is more up Chris’s alley. In fact, the moment you see Wesker performing some Matrix-level stunts is the perfect time to call it quits.

Resident Evil 0 may be similar to Resident Evil in terms of setting, with a facility deep in the woods. What makes this experience way more difficult for some would be the inclusion of more insects and creepy crawlies.

Say what you want about your ability to keep your cool around zombies, but for those who hate bugs, you have to deal with giant centipedes, roach-like abominations, and fuzzy spiders. Add in all the other animal mutations, and you’ve got every reason to go “nope”.

If you make it past the dogs, the Spencer Mansion doesn’t seem that scary at first glance.Slow-moving zombies? You can take them even if you aren’t a fully trained S.T.A.R.S. member. Everything will change once that first zombie gets back up again as a Crimson Head.

Even if you’re going by classic Resident Evil 1 rules, you still have to deal with the Hunters that can slice your head clean off. If you do decide to stay in the mansion, why would you ever decide to split up, as Barry suggests?

While anyone in Leon and Claire’s situation still has a chance to flee, Jill is at the heart of the city when everything goes down. As a S.T.A.R.S. member, she is also being hunted down by Nemesis. While Jill has plenty of skills to fight back, everyone else would most likely try to hunker down.

We see this at the start of the game, where Dario hides inside a shipping container rather than face the horrors outside. Who could really blame him? Unfortunately, this will most likely result in you getting nuked while waiting for things to blow over.

Claire Redfield already had some experience with zombiesand other mutationsby the time she got taken to Rockfort Island. This kind of situation would scare anyone into hiding in the nearest corner to just wait it out. Not to mention the fact that the island was also getting bombed at the time.

Claire has some moves that only she could pull off. Dropping a gun, catching it mid-fall, and shooting a tanker behind Umbrella soldiers would probably have us all fumbling. We definitely wouldn’t have a Leon or a Chris to call for backup either.

Resident Evil 6 is the height of action in the series. Unless you’re as nimble as Leon, battle-hardened like Chris, or Immune like Sherry and Jake, you’re probably not making it out alive.

Leon’s campaign is one of the scariest. With the virus being spread around in a gaseous form, there isn’t much you would be able to do but wait for the end. Jake’s campaign feels more like a situation you would be in if you choose to throw yourself into it. Never trust those performance-enhancing super-soldier drugs.

Ethan Winters also has an adventure that sees him fighting werewolves and other beings with supernatural-tiered powers. This includes telekinesis, illusions, and physical transformations. Ethan has one major advantage this time around. He has been training with Chrisin his survival skills.

Given the same training, anyone would feel just a bit safer wandering the village. The biggest decision for his character is going to save Rose. Anyone with kids might make the same decision to throw themselves deeper into the situation, whether they stand a chance or not. So in this case, there’s no bailing.
