Summary
It’s been fantastic to see new players immerse themselves in the magic of Oblivion nineteen years after the game’s original release, thanks to the advent ofOblivion Remastered.
Players diligently working through Oblivion Remastered’s main quest may have stumbled across the character Jeelius. During the main quest, Dagon’s Shrine, Jeelius finds himself in the unfortunate predicament of being a captive of the Mythic Dawn.
Sticky Situation
There are several fates for Jeelius, most of them grisly. The player can kill Jeelius to maintain their disguise as a Mythic Dawn cultist, avoiding a lot of tough combat. If the player steals the Mysterium Xarxes and makes a run for it, a statue will collapse on Jeelius, crushing him.
To save Jeelius, one must either spam spells on the argonian to give him enough bulk to survive the statue, or free him after clearing the room. However, both options mean you’ll have to navigate the cultist-infested Living Quarters section while trying desperately to protect a naked argonian from powerful enemies. It’s not easy, but with the grace of Akatosh, Jeelius will emerge from this cave intact.
After escaping the cave, you can meet Jeelius later on at the Temple of the One, where he will grant you a skill boost in Alchemy, Mysticism and Restoration.
A user namedEvLokadottrwrote about their experience with Jeelius, saying their self-given quest of protecting the priest until he reached the Imperial City was their “most meaningful quest” in Oblivion Remastered.
If you fast travel away from Jeelius, he will teleport to the Temple of the One. However, EvLokadottr didn’t know that this was how the mechanic worked, and so decided to escort the naked Jeelius from the Shrine of Dagon to the Imperial City.
“I decided to give myself an hour-long escort quest,” they write. “I ran ahead of him, checking back from time to time, killing all that was in our way. Mountain lions, ogres, daedra, bandits, and rats. I’d chat with him once in a while, though he had no new dialogue options. I’d run ahead, clear the way, then watch over him while he strolled down the road in his little tail-hole tighty-whites.”
Jeelius was delivered safely to the temple, and the poster reaped the rewards and gained a nice story to tell about an unmarked quest. There are several non-player characters the player can go through great lengths to save, such as Shameer, a farmer with sticky fingers who is nearly always annihilated as soon as he loads into a player’s game. Unfortunately, the Emperor is not an NPC you may save, despite the best efforts of new players.
Shameer’s “low responsibility” flag and his hard-coded desire for food mean he’ll often steal food from other NPCs, causing his untimely death more often than not.
Oblivion Remastered is currently available on PC, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5.
