If you’re one of themore than 3.5 million people who were able to secureaNintendo Switch 2during last month’s launch, odds are you either bought the standalone Switch 2 console or theMario Kart Worldbundle, which comes with a digital code for the Switch 2 exclusive and will only be available for a limited time.
That last bit is important, as oneNintendogamer learned first-hand that consoles that are bundled with a digital code can have that code and game revoked altogether by the company.
Fear Not, There’s A Solution, But Also Be Careful If You Return A Console
Taking to Reddit, u/GreatGreg2 shared the situation they found themselves in. After exchanging their defective Switch 2 for another, they found that Mario Kart World was inaccessible.
The game was still visible on their home screen, but any attempt to play it showed that the “virtual” game card was not available. Going to the eShop to potentially re-download the title presented them with an option to purchase it again, something they already did by redeeming the bundled code.
As it turns out, if you happen to return a device to Nintendo, then the company can and will revoke the software that was bundled with it. Which is to say, that redeemed code isn’t tied to your account, but rather the console.Apparently, this has been a thing since the original Switch, but only so many people have experienced it, making things all the more confusing.
In order to get “back” your games that you own, whether it’s Mario Kart World or another game that will be bundled in the future, you’ll have to go to the system settings and search for the “Products Bundled With This System” tab in order to re-download things. That’s a lot of hoops, if you ask me.
