SeveralPokemonhave received powerful Mega Evolutions thus far in the franchise, but many other deserving candidates remain ignored, calling out for their own Mega form. However, several popular choices are still sitting in the Mega Evolution waiting room, wondering if their names will ever be called.
Even if you’ve given up hope of your beloved Flygon ever receiving a Mega Evolution, we haven’t, and we’re ready to carry the torch for these Pokemon. With Mega Evolutions returning to the Pokemon TCG in late 2025, these Pokemon deserving of Mega Evolutions should be at the top of the list for any new additions.
8Deoxys
Let’s start our parade through Pokemon deserving of Mega Evolutions with probably the least likely choice to receive one: Deoxys. While it would be a long shot for an already-powerful Mythical Pokemon like Deoxys to get even stronger via a Mega Evolution, Rayquaza sets a precedent that makes this a real possibility.
While there’s little doubt that it might have been a bad choice to make one of the most powerful Pokemon even stronger than the rest, Rayquaza’s Mega Evolution almost necessitates that Deoxys receive one too, given their connection.
7Arcanine
Arcanine has gotten the short end of the stick from the earliest days of its existence, as this Pokemon was originally slated to be included as one of the first ever Legendary Pokemon along with Mewtwo. While Arcanine is still known astheLegendary Pokemon, it’s not considered among the same pantheon as true legendaries, like Mewtwo.
While some ofArcanine’s most valuable Pokemon TCG cardsreflect its immense popularity, this Pokemon has received little attention in recent years, with the debut of Hisuian Arcanine as the only alternative form it’s been given.
6Zoroark
Zoroark is one of the coolest Pokemon and has made a name for itself as one of the most popular Pokemon fromthe Pokemon TCG’s Journey Together set. While this Pokemon still seems to be on the Pokemon Company’s (TPCI) mind, they haven’t given it a stronger form other than the Hisuian Zoroark alternate design.
While an additional form is nice to have, this Pokemon is cool enough on its own to warrant receiving a new, stronger evolution that doesn’t completely alter its original color scheme orgive it unusual typings.
5Meganium
Meganium is one of the most snubbed Pokemon of all time, as it fails to equal Feraligatr or Typhlosion in pure strength or coolness, and is one of the most deserving Mega Evolution candidates. The word “Mega” is even in its name, how could you ever justify ignoring this Pokemon as a top choice for Mega Evolution?
While some of the other snubs could be justified because they don’t need to be stronger or have already received other forms, there’s really no reason Meganium should be left out, as its been ignored for too long already.
4Dragapult
While it is one of the newest Pokemon on the list, Dragapult would be a fantastic Mega Evolution choice, especially given that its design lends itself to a similar motif to Kangaskhan with the small baby Pokemon on this Dragon’s head. Dragapult’s connection to its pre-evolution could provide a perfect element for a Mega Evolution design.
Admittedly, Dragapult is probably not going to get a Mega Evolution before some of the other possible choices, but stranger things have happened with Pokemon before. Fingers crossed that we’re surprised and wrong about this one’s likelihood.
3Flygon
Flygon is one of the most deserving Pokemon to never receive an alternate form of any kind, and would make the perfect Mega Evolution candidate. There have been dozens of fan concepts made for this Mega Evolution, and the Pokemon’s simple design lends itself to a variety of creative possibilities.
The combination of a cool but plain design, a lack of other forms, and its status as one of the strongest Pokemon of its generation makes Flygon a great Pokemon that should get a Mega Evolution. We know that there will be many cheers echoing through the internet if this one happens.
2Typhlosion
Following up on Meganium, Typhlosion would be another excellent Pokemon to gain a Mega Evolution, as Charizard’s two forms already provide a perfect template for what you could expect to see from a fierce Fire-type starter’s Mega Evolution. While its design is incredibly different from Charizard, Typhlosion’s flames are a great base to start with.
Whatever method the artists choose to enhance Typhlosion’s already impressive and intimidating design, it will be a well-deserved upgrade. Unfortunately, like Zoroark and Arcanine, Typhlosion also received a Hisuian form, which makes it less likely to get a Mega Evolution, but hey, we can dream.
1Dragonite
Dragonite is the most deserving and possibly the most likely Pokemon to receive a Mega Evolution of the best choices above. Dragonite is one of the original 151 Pokemon and has never earned an alternate form of any kind, making it a prime option to finally get some much-needed attention from the design team.
Dragonite’s adorable design and nuanced personality make it a perfect choice, and it could be one of the few Pokemon not named Charizard who could warrant a split Mega Evolution path. Since Dragonite can be either lighthearted or intense, a split path leaning into each trait would make this one of the best Mega Evolutions in Pokemon.
