What do you get when you cross the stop-motion style of Wallace & Gromit with the adorable characters from thePokemonseries? That would be Aardman’s newest project, Pokemon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu, which will be a standalone series featuring the two titular characters.

Aardman Animations is the studio behind renowned stop-motion animated series and films, including Wallace & Gromit and Chicken Run. The now-iconic style is a trademark of the studio, and based on the first look at Wooloo enjoying some lunch while Sirfetch’d and Pichu cause havoc in the background, we have high hopes. We’d love to see these Pokemon appear in Pokemon Tales.

Meowth smiling and holding its arms wide in the Pokemon anime.

8Meowth

Meowth has been an integral part of multiple Pokemon series, dating back to its debut alongside fellow Team Rocket members, Jesse and James. As one of the few Pokemon to ever communicate clearly with humans, Meowth joins an exclusive list that warrants its inclusion in this series, whether as an ‘in’ for the audience, or as a narrator of sorts.

Beyond the functional aspects that Meowth would fulfill, it would be a great option to fit in with the iconic Aardman design. From color palette to scale, Meowth would fit right in.

Charla is surrounded by Charizard in Pokemon.

7Charizard

Whether it’s appearing due toits valuable Pokemon TCG cardsor due to its prominence in Ash’s team, Charizard has a penchant for grabbing the spotlight, and we expect the same here. Whether you’re a fan or hater, Charizard’s appearance is more of a question of when ‘more’ than ‘if’.

On a design level, it’s a bit odd to imagine Charizard in the classic Aardman style, but maybe the curiosity will be enough to sway the animators to include one of the most famous Pokemon of all time.

Yamper looks up at a plate of food

6Yamper

With Sirfetch’d and Wooloo’s appearances in thePokemon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu trailer, it’s clear that the Galar regionwill be the main setting, so you should expect to see plenty of Pokemon native to that location.

Yamper is essentially just a dog, and if there’s a creature that the good people over at Aardman Animations know how to animate, it’s dogs. This one is nearly guaranteed, and even though there won’t be much surprise when it does eventually appear, we’re excited to see a Yamper anyway.

Corviknight flaps its wings and screeches in the Pokemon anime.

5Corviknight

Staying on the Galar train for a moment, Corviknight is another iconic Galarian Pokemon, with this large bird gaining fame in the animated series and video games. If we’re operating under the assumption that there are going to be some antagonistic characters, we’d pin Corviknight as one of the most likely options.

Corviknight is one of the strongest Galarian Pokemonyou’ll find, and would fit into a villainous role well. Aardman also has plenty of experience animating bird-like characters, so this one feels like another safe expectation.

Ash and Pikachu prepare to battle in Pokemon.

4Pikachu

Based on his popular ‘I choose you’ catchphrase,we can guess who Ash’s first choice would be to appear in Pokemon Tales: his beloved Pikachu. With Pichu as one of the main characters, it feels like Pikachu’s appearance will be necessary at some point, as a counterpart or mentor to Pichu.

Story-based arguments aside, the fact that Pikachu remains the most iconic Pokemon ever is enough of a reason as any to include it, and we’ll all be waiting for the appearance of this beloved Pokemon whether we admit it or not.

3Dragonite

Whether you’re a fan of Dragonite’s Mega Evolution or areone of those bitterly disappointed by the design,The Pokemon Company International has Dragonite at the forefront of their minds. Even though we’re not getting Pokemon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu until 2027, there’s a chance this dragon might appear.

While this Pokemon might be one of the least likely of the options thus far, we’d still like to see how Dragonite’s design would work when transposed over Aardman’s iconic style.

Greedent smiles and pushes on its cheeks with its hands in Pokemon.

2Greedent

To put the focus back on the Galar Region, Greedent is a top choice likely to appear at some point during the series. With Wooloo’s appearance in the trailer and the verdant, grassy plain, we can assume that we’ll be seeing plenty of Pokemon wandering around outside.

Greedent is an adorable Pokemon and one you’d reasonably expect to see everywhere in Galar, so it’s a good bet that it’ll be a background character at the very least. Plus, given the simplistic design, it wouldn’t be difficult for Aardman to recreate and animate this Pokemon.

Applin with the Pokemon Go battlefield as the background.

1Applin

Perhaps the biggest hint from the Pokemon Tales trailer was the lone apple that flew out of the background and dropped in front of Wooloo. While it looked like a normal apple, when it comes to Pokemon, you can safely assume that things that seem like everyday objects are usually Pokemon.

As one of the most underused Pokemon in the series since its introduction, maybe it’s too hopeful to guess that we’ll see this fruit appear again. There are so many gags and funny mistakes characters could make involving Applin, so its comedic potential gives it a legitimate chance to appear in Aardman’s Pokemon Tales.
