2025 will go down as one of the best years for thePokemon Trading Card Gamein its nearly 30-year history. Things kicked off withPrismatic Evolutions, the incredibly popular, incredibly hard to get hold ofEevee-focused set, then moved ontoJourney Together, a stunning set that ushered in the return of Trainers' Pokemon. May then saw the release ofDestined Rivals, which saw the comeback of Team Rocket to the TCG.
Looking ahead, we then haveBlack Bolt and White Flare, the Pokemon TCG’s first-ever English-language expansion to be split across two sets. The set will be centered aroundPokemon Black and White, and will feature secret rare cards of every single Pokemon found in Unova, and following that, we have the return of Mega Pokemon to coincide withthe release of Pokemon Legends: Z-A.
Thefirst two Mega Pokemon coming to the TCGwere revealed during a Pokemon Presents presentation earlier this year, Mega Lucario ex and Mega Gardevoir ex, and now, in Japan, we’ve got a look at two more, one of which is a record breaker.
Pokemon Reveals Mega Venusaur ex and Mega Latias ex For The TCG
This new set, which is called Mega Brave and Mega Symphonia in Japan, will mark the first time that we’ve seen Mega Evolutions in the Pokemon Trading Card Game since2016’s XY Evolutions set.
The latest cards revealed include Mega Venusaur ex and Mega Latias ex, with Mega Venusaur breaking the record for the tournament-legal Pokemon Card withthe highest HP.
Prior to this reveal, the upcoming Mega Gardevoir ex was set to break the record with 360 HP. However, Mega Venusaur ex eclipses that with 380 HP. The highest it had ever been before that was 340 HP, with eight cards sharing the record. Ishihara GX did have 350 HP, but there are only ~200 of that card in existence, so it’s hard to take it seriously.
Alongside the Mega Venusaur ex and Mega Latias ex reveals, we also got a look at Bulbasaur, Vulpix, and Inteleon art rares, which can be seen below:
It doesn’t stop there with Mega Venusaur, Latias, Gardevoir, and Lucario either. In Japan, it’s already been confirmed that another new expansion, Inferno X, will be released in September, and will, of course, be focused around Mega Charizard - likely the Mega Charizard X version, given the name.
