Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket’scurrent event rotation can feel pretty stale, withsome players going as far as saying it’s “literally zero fun”. However, while they aren’t the best to participate in, they do have the potential to release some pretty potent cards into the meta.
In April, there wasa Floatzel promo that was touted to mix things up, although that never really came to fruition. A new Togedemaru card, though, released as part of the most recent ChanseyWonder Pick Event, could do what Floatzel couldn’t and infiltrate TCG Pocket’s meta, given the fact that it can deal an obscene amount of damage on a turn that it doesn’t even attack.
Togedemaru Can Hit For 70 Damage In A Turn Where It Doesn’t Attack
Togedemaru, on its own, doesn’t seem like a great card. It only has 80 HP and its attack, Bristling Spikes, only hits for 30 damage at a cost of two Metal Energies. However, the flavor text that comes with its attack is where things get interesting.
If Togedemaru is attacked in the turn after using Bristling Spikes, it deals 30 damage to the opposing Pokemon. Add in a Rocky Helmet, and that jumps up to 50 damage. However, if your opponent is using a type that is weak to Steel-type Pokemon, the weakness damage bonus is applied, meaning Togedemaru now hits for 70 damage in a turn where it doesn’t have to attack.
Not only that,Celestial Guardians' Sophocles Supporter buffs Togedemaru’s attack by 30 damage on the turn it’s used, meaning if it attacks a Pokemon weak to Metal-types, it deals 80 damage from a move that initially only deals 30. Assuming it then hits for 70 damage after being attacked, that’s 150 damage in one turn, from just two energy cards. Not bad for a little round rodent and a card that’s easily obtainable.
Of course, a lot needs to happen for the card to reach its full potential, but with the rise of the Sweets Relay decks and the prominence of Sylveon ex, it could absolutely have utility in decks likethe one revolving around Solgaleo ex.
