Summary

One thingPokemon Trading Card Game Pocket’slatest expansion,Celestial Guardians, has been excellent at is letting lesser-known/not-as-well-liked Pokemon step into the spotlight. Oricorio came in and completely blew the game’s meta apart, invalidating some of its most powerful decks, and other Pokemon, like Passimion and Wishiwashi, got stunning rainbow-bordered ex cards.

Now, as first spotted byReddituser Phailups, another ‘filler’ Pokemon may be stepping into the limelight, filling a role that’s been held by Druddigon for a number of months.

Druddigon May Have Just Lost Its Throne As Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket’s Chief Staller

Druddigon was added to Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket as part of its second expansion,Mythical Island, and has beena staple in many decks since then. It’s Rough Skin ability, which deals 20 damage to the opposition Pokemon when attacked, slowed the game down as players reluctantly avoided attacking it, allowing its user to set themselves up. Pyukumuku may be about to take its throne, though.

While Pyukumuku doesn’t deal damage to the opponent’s Pokemon when damaged, it does deal 50 damage when it’s knocked out. Over the course of two turns, when combined with the Rocky Helmet tool, it has the potential to deal more damage than Druddigon.

As you can see, from a pure passive damage perspective, Pyukumuku comes up trumps, but there’s more to it.

Pyukumuku’s retreat cost is only one energy, meaning it can be withdrawn from battle at the drop of a hat. It can also attack for 20 damage each turn off a single Water Energy, meaning that its damage output can be increased further.

That’s not to say Pyukumuku is better in every situation. There are times when you need a wall with a higher HP pool than Pyukumuku’s 60, but it certainly has its utility and potential to replace Druddigon in a wide variety of decks.
