Pokemon TCG Pocket’s next big expansion will be rolled out next week, and some very detailed leaks and rumors have finally been confirmed to be real. The next set will be based on the Johto region, with the additions of powerful new cards featuring Lugia and Ho-Oh shown off in the set’s reveal trailer.
When Pokemon TCG Pocket’s run began with a set all about the original 151 Pokemon, with a few cameo appearances from newer Pokemon, some might have assumed we’d be moving along in chronological order. That left many of us waiting patiently for the second big set to be one featuring Pokemon that were first introduced viaPokemon Gold & Silver, but that didn’t happen.
Pokemon TCG Pocket’s Wisdom of Sea and Sky expansion drops July 30
Let’s go (back to) Johto!
Instead, we were made to wait for what has quickly become Pocket’s most requested expansion, and now that wait is finally over, or at least it will be on July 30. Gen two’s legendary birds, Ho-Oh and Lugia, are the stars, each of them getting their own booster pack. They also have their own ex cards, which may well shake up the Pocket meta over the coming weeks.
Other Johto Pokemon joining them in the new set include Gold & Silver partners Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodille, and new ex cards for Umbreon and Espeon were also shown off in the trailer. It seems the Year of Eevee will continue as this new set comes off the back of the recently released Eevee Grove booster pack, which naturally included a lot of love for Umbreon, Espeon, and the other Eeveelutions.
Pocket even hasits own version of the TCG’s well-loved Moonbreon card. Better start spending those pack points before the Johto expansion turns your head next week.
There will also be new shiny cards to collect, although only one of them was shown during the reveal. A shiny Gyarados card, marking the red version of the Kanto Pokemon’s debut in Pocket. New Pichu and Cleffa cards were also shown, which is either a hat tip to what’s to come, or potentially means the leaks, which accurately predicted the Johto set’s arrival, were slightly off.
The same leaks claimed that next month Pokemon TCG Pocket will get a baby-themed booster pack, and then a Mega Evolution booster after that. The presence of new baby Pokemon cards may mean the leakers got their wires crossed. However, the introduction of Mega Evolution cards at the end of September makes a lot of sense with the mechanic playing a big role inPokemon Legends: Z-A, which launches this October.
