PlayStationcould be gearing up to share more of its games with rival platforms. This is according to a job listing being shared online, in which PlayStation is recruiting for a senior manager to oversee future ports toXbox,Nintendo Switch 2, and more.
If PlayStation really is doubling down on its multiplatform efforts, that would be in keeping with what we have seen from the company in recent years. Increasingly, the gap betweena PlayStation exclusive coming to PCis shortening, and we’re even seeing some titles come to Xbox, such as Helldivers 2.
It Looks Like PlayStation Wants To Bring More Games To Xbox
As spotted byResetErauser Napalm_Frank, PlayStation is currently looking to fill the position of senior director of multiplatform and account management. Thejob listinggives us some indication of how seriously PlayStation is taking its multiplatform efforts now.
" […] you will play a critical leadership role in shaping and executing the global commercial strategy for PlayStation Studios software titles across all digital platforms beyond PlayStation hardware, including Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox, Nintendo, and mobile," the post reads. “This role is accountable for optimizing title profitability, ensuring cross-functional alignment, and leading a high-performing team focused on multiplatform expansion, mid-range commercial planning, and platform partner management.”
Furthermore, the successful candidate will lead a team of managers who are specifically tasked with Xbox and PC ports, suggesting that this is where PlayStation’s primary focus is now. While this is unlikely to be a complete walkback of its exclusivity strategy, it would be a great start.
On the other hand, Xbox hasditched the idea of keeping games as Xbox console exclusives. While it tried to make this work at the start of the console generation, it could just never emulate the success it had with this in the past, and has ended up sharing some huge titles, like Indiana Jones and The Great Circle, and Hi-Fi Rush. Upcoming Xbox titles coming to PS5 include Gears of War: Reloaded and The Outer Worlds 2.
Only time will tell if the age of console exclusivity is on the way out. If that is the case - and Xboxdoes stay in the hardware business after all- then Sony and Microsoft will just have to wow us with the tech alone.
