PlayStationStudios CEO Herman Hulst has recently confirmed that the studio aims to release “at least” one big single-player game a year from now on.

Even though PlayStation has had two massive console generations in a rowand is generally in a much better place than it was in the dark era of the PS3’s early days, it’s fair to say that a lot of players are disappointed with its output lately.PlayStation is known for its first-party releases, but the PS5 simplyhasn’t had all that much that takes advantage of the current generation.

While last year did give us the excellent Astro Bot, it really felt more like the start of the PS5’s tenure than its fourth year. Although there have been a lot of exciting first-party releases from PlayStation over the past few years likeSpider-Man 2,God of War Ragnarok, and more, there have been some concerns about whether it’ll be able to keep up that momentum.

PlayStation Will Aim To Release At Least One “Tentpole” Game A Year

I Wonder What That Means For 2026…

Worry not, PlayStation fans, as it’s been confirmed that the studio is keeping its focus on massive yearly single-player titles. As pointed out by Twitter user Genki_JPN, PlayStation Studios CEO Herman Hulstrecently discussed PlayStation’s plans over the next few years, which included highlighting its single-player releases.

Hulst noted that, when it comes to single-player games, PlayStation is going to keep “consistently delivering at least one tentpole title per year”, which seemingly refers to the major first-party titles. Hulst notes that these games will be “at the right time in the year” and “at the right quality level” that players expect from PlayStation Studios.

Before you start raising your pitchforks at the idea of one first-party PlayStation title a year, it’s worth noting that Hulst specifically said “at least” one, which likely means a few more per year. In 2025 alone, we’ve got bothDeath Stranding 2: On The BeachandGhost of Yotei, which suggests it’s more likely to be two a year.

Meanwhile, 2024 hadFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirthand Astro Bot, while 2023 had Spider-Man 2 andFinal Fantasy 16.

While 2025 seems pretty set with its “tentpole” PlayStation games, that does raise some interesting questions forWolverine and Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, which don’t have release windows at all. It’s possible that these two will shore up 2026 in a big way, although I could see just one of those releasing since GTA 6 is going to take up so much oxygen in the year.
