Since 2010,Sonyhasoffered its gamers PlayStation Plus, a subscription service that provides access to the PlayStation Network, Cloud Saves, select PlayStation Store discounts and, of course, monthly free games. And since 2022,PlayStation Plus has an additional two tiers, including one that provides access toPS4andPS5games (Extra) and another that does all that, plus classic titles(Premium).

That said, one gamer took it upon themselves to play only PlayStation Plus Extra games for an entire year, and only games available on the service. This is how their grand experiment went.

For This PlayStation User “This Is The New Gaming”

Across their year, they totaled 45 different campaigns, including games like Red Dead Redemption and Marvel’s Spider-Man. They earned 1,203 Trophies, with two of them being Platinums.

As part of their post, they listed all the games they played, though they ultimately noted some feelings of disappointment in the program, especially when compared to Xbox’s Game Pass, which has had a rather standout year with multiple day-one triple-A releases.

Still, they called the program as a whole “the new gaming,” though other gamers in the comments weren’t as quick to shout praise for PlayStation’s “competitor” to Game Pass, with some saying the initial shine wears off after a year, and you exhaust the critically-acclaimed offerings. Either way, it’s a rather neat experiment that has some interesting results, depending on the type of gamer you are.
