Summary
It’s now been 3,189 days sincePersona 5was released, and a lot has happened since then. We’ve had twoNintendoconsoles launch, a newXboxconsole, and a newPlayStationconsole.Fortnitebecame the biggest game in the world,GTA 6 was revealedandsubsequently delayed, andHollow Knight: Silksong,Half-Life, andKingdom Heartsfans all lost their minds waiting for games in their respective franchises. The gaming landscape has also faced a seismic shift.
With so much time passing, so much happening, and such a long wait,Personafans are right to be lumped into the category of Silksong and Kingdom Hearts, as they eagerly await news on the sixth installment of the franchise.
While there has been radio silence on the title since the release of Persona 5, aside from a handful of leaks and rumors, including one thatsuggests the color theme will be green, that wait could be coming to an end as series director, Wada-san, just told fans to “hold on a little longer.”
Persona 6 Director Hints That News Could Be Coming Soon
Followingyesterday’s announcement of Persona 4 Revival, Wada-san senta new message to fans: “We are currently working on this project with all our passion and love [Persona 4 Revival]. We are confident that this will be a fresh and surprising product for both newcomers and long-time fans, and we look forward to sharing it with you all.”
While much of the message focused on the newly announced remake, the director added, “Additionally, we are actively preparing for the future development of the Persona series as a studio. We are working hard to meet the expectations of fans around the world, and our work is progressing well. Please stay tuned for more updates. We look forward to your continued support for the Persona series.”
This comment marks one of the first times that Atlus and P-Studio have officially acknowledgedPersona 6. It’s likely in response to growing calls from the series' community for the company to release, or at least reveal, its next game, as remakes and spin-offs continue to pad its library.
The wording, however, is a little confusing. The words “We are actively preparing” imply that work hasn’t started yet, which is slightly concerning.
We are actively preparing for the future development of the Persona series as a studio. We are working hard to meet the expectations of fans around the world, and our work is progressing well. Please stay tuned for more updates.
The 3,189+ days between Persona 5 and Persona 6 is the longest period between two games in the series. There were 1,007 days betweenPersonaand Persona 2: Innocent Sin, and a further 367 days between that and Persona 2: Eternal Punishment. Then, between Persona 2: Eternal Punishment andPersona 3, there were 2,205 days. 728 days passed between Persona 3 and Persona 4, and until now, the 2,989 days betweenPersona 4and Persona 5 represented the largest gap. The wait between Persona 5 and Persona 6 has eclipsed this, and it’s only going to keep growing.
Since the release of Persona 5, a myriad of titles in the franchise have been released. Persona 5 itself had the definitive Persona 5 Royal, alongsidemultiple spin-offsincludingPersona 5 Strikers,Persona 5 Tactica, Persona 5: Dancing In The Starlight, and the upcoming mobile title,Persona 5: The Phantom X. It also received both an anime and manga spin-off.
Alongside those, Persona 3 was remade with last year’s release of Persona 3 Reload, and, of course, we’ve just received the announcement for Persona 4 Revival. Plus,Atlusreleased its critically acclaimedMetaphor: ReFantazioduring that window.
